Are you in a relationship and thinking about trucking? Lots of guys come in with questions as to whether or not they should go OTR. “Married? Nooooooooooooooooo.” Can a marriage/relationship survive OTR? Yes. There are plenty guys that do it, there have been plenty guys that done it, raised kids and grandkids. The thing is, you have to be Rock Solid, and most of you are not.
    1. If your wife has to go after you to make sure that you don’t screw up
    2. If you are hotheaded
    3. If you can’t keep a job because you always allow your mouth to get you in trouble
    4. If you have gotten caught cheating in the past
    5. If on a scale of 1-10, you rate your relationship less than a 9
    6. If you and the woman cannot have a conversation without having a shouting match and say hurtful things
    7. If you tell her EVERYTHING
    8. If your wife has ever had to try to fix your Fups
    9. Wife calls seemingly every 5 minutes

DON’T do it. In order to survive, a relationship has to have trust. If she thinks that you’re a screwup, that’s the same thing as you having a fling on the side.

“But Six, doesn’t my telling her everything mean there’s trust?”

No sir. It means you’re a screwup.

Bad things happen all the time. Bad accidents and bad weather, bad dispatchers, bad areas of the country

Got stuck in a blizzard in Joplin a few years back. We were all sitting in the restaurant watching the weather. We see a break in the weather and we were preparing to roll out. Except for one guy. “I promised my wife that I wouldn’t drive today.”

    Seriously?

Some of you guys will call the wife during a crisis to let her know you’re under crisis. And so she sitting there pulling her hair out. Hey man, just because there’s a tornado warning on TV doesn’t mean you call her and tell her. If you’re going to tell her, tell her AFTER the danger passes. Some of you guys are like the weather channel during a hurricane. Every time the barometric pressure drops, you feel the need to call her and tell her. Screw up.

Another common thing is when a guy tells his wife about an argument that he had with his travel agent. You poison your wife when you do that. She will hate your travel agent. The next thing that goes wrong, she will be pressuring you to quit. Every time something goes wrong. And the worst of these are the ones whose wives call and communicate with your boss or travel agent. That’s like being bullied in school and your mommy showing up to confront the bully. Man Card denied.

Now don’t think that you could Fup for a bunch of years and screw up everything you touch, and then suddenly, turn things around in a short time. Trust is like your credit score with the wife. It doesn’t do a 180 overnight. And you can’t do it for the job. Heck, you can’t do it for your family. The only person that you can quit being a Fup and turn into a solid adult for is yourself. That’s a hard fight.

Now, there is one thing that’s worse than a guy that has a lady that doesn’t trust him. That’s a guy that has a lady he doesn’t trust. Want to see someone fall apart? Let her miss 1 phone call. The whole world is coming to an end. Completely irrational, cannot function...sure as hell cant drive. I’d rather be dead.

Anyways, if you’re one of the people thinking about going OTR and have an LTR, be honest and look at your situation at the house first.

    Luck in battle.

If you are stuck in a sardine can with your mate it is a test of how committed you are, some can thrive and then some will learn the true nature of the relationship.

You will hear guys in the men’s room, sitting on a throne telling their wives how many logs he put in the pool.
Does a woman really want to know this? No, but he’s a screwup and so now he has to tell her everything. EVERYTHING. Some guys have to read the menu over the phone.

Poor guy? Nope. Poor woman...she’s married to an idiot.

“Delbert, don’t forget to courtesy flush and wipe your arse. Yes, use the toilet paper. Yes, the same way you did this morning.”

^^^ this one got me. I've never been OTR but wish I hadn't vented to my wife about certain bosses at a previous job. I could handle it just fine -- but every time something fouls up, she would pile more pressure on me to quit.

Well if his wife needs to remind him to wipe his ### and wash his hands afterwards then yup, he's dumb (not stupid).

Dont talk about job to wife when you phone. Its not interesting at all. Offering your location is about as much as they want to hear, not your whining and moaning about how crappy your day/week/month has been.

I work nights and my wife works days and we never call each other while working. That means we only talk to each other on weekends.
    Going on 22 years now.
