I am a 19 yr driving veteran with USA Truck who blogs and posts here at TruckersReport and elsewhere and
I received this email a few hours ago from Vinnie who is apparently a trucking school graduate:

"I was contacted by James Bishop of USA Truck who stated that he was the number 3 man in the company. After speaking with him for a few moments, he told me that I was hired and wanted to know how soon I could get down to Atlanta, GA for orientation and training. We both agreed on September 9, 2011 as I don't graduate from school until September 2, 2011. He advised me that his word was better than a contract. He asked me to contact him today after speaking things over with my wife. When I returned the call to him today, I advised him who I was and that he asked me to contact him today. He rudely stated "There's nothing I can do" and hung up the phone. Really? Is this how the no. 3 man in the company treats new drivers? No thanks. I'd rather have nothing to do with USA Truck after this. At 55 years old, I don't expect to be coddled, but a little respect from a potential employer is expected. If this is how USA Truck treats their potential drivers, I can't imagine how they treat their current drivers. Be safe drivers! Hope you are treated better. I'll find a better company to work for."

I checked out his story and this is what I found...

Vinnie I'm sorry it took me so long to post & reply to your comments. I'm not afraid to post anything factual here at (I removed the name of my website here. That's not what this is all about) but I do try to be careful especially when someone is named in such a derogatory fashion. I investigated your story and I believe that it happened just the way you have stated it. The tip off for us was in the first sentence of your comment "who stated that he was". I'm sorry my friend but you have been scammed. Please tell me he didn't get any money from you. James Bishop is not the #3 man at USA Truck. I don't think we actually number them. In fact we only have two James Bishops and they are both drivers. We do however have reports that there's someone from the 615 area code calling themselves James making calls to trucking school attendees and saying he is from USA Truck or PAM or Schneider etc and telling them that " you are just what we're looking for" or somesuch and then asking for various amounts of money to cover transportation, lodging etc. I would appreciate it if you would call our recruiting department at 800-XXX-XXXX and tell them your story. Maybe you can help catch this crook. Thank you for telling us your story Vinnie. I hope that it will serve as a warning to others. Here are 2 things that should serve as a warning in this type of scam:
    1) None of the "head honchos" of any of the major carriers are out recruiting drivers.
    2) No reputable trucking company would ever ask for money up front from a prospective employee.
Best of luck to you Vinnie. I'm sorry this happened to you.
