Don't know what I'm doing need HELP!

Want to buy a tractor. Got $25k to spend. Don't really know what to look for. Miles? Year? Make? Trying to go through the ports. I found this one but I don't know anything about tractors. Been working for a big time food distributor for 3+ years. Tired of humping boxes.

Not dissing you here but if you are asking a question like that sounds like you may not be ready to buy a truck. Are you going to run under your own authority or someone else's? Do you have reliable source of revenue? Then there's insurance, your base plate, and probably a bunch more stuff I am missing.

Not trying to discourage you, but before even considering buying a truck you really need to have a business plan in place. I worked as an auto mechanic and have and driven for years, but before I bought a truck I would pay to have a DOT truck mechanic go over it.

 

Hell, ANY truck is a crap shoot. Used or new. The warranty will eventually run out on a new truck. And in some cases, you'll lose more money waiting for warranty work to be completed than had you bought the parts and did it yourself. Just saying.

@Los save more money. That's a good down payment. But you'll need a break down fund of $10K or more set aside too. I would suggest $20k in reserve. While you save more, learn as much as you can about the different trucks that are out there. Issues different engines are known for. How one truck may be better suited for flat bed while another is better for vans. Etc. Etc. Then you can make a better informed decision when the time comes.

Why not just be a lowly company driver?
You'll be in a newer truck, have health insurance, not pay for fuel and repairs and still make good money.

 

Just wondering, are you going to do local driving? If not why are you buying a day cab
