I know when you get assigned your own truck you should know how to work the log book but if a newbie does make a mistake will they show you how to not make that mistake again or will they just penalize you for the mistake and get on about their business?
It depends on the mistake, and where you are at. Last week, I was running with someone and we went through the scale at the MS/LA border. Log checking today. It was the 29th. The guy I was with started the log book as March 1. Needless to say, they told him to park and bring in paperwork. End result, correct it before you leave.
I have no idea, I make no mistakes. Actually, they are usually simple. Failure to start the log book. Failure to show pre/post trips. Going over the 14 hour rule or the 70 hour rule. This is where DDL pays off. Not being current to the last duty change. Fuel stop not matched or some other type of receipt.
Do you have to keep fuel receipts to prove something? What would it matter if you stopped for fuel or not on your log book? The 14 hour rule over rules everything anyway doesn't it? I am really curious, not trying to be anything else.
All receipts such as fuel, toll and scale tickets are required to be kept. They also are to match the times on the log book. Safety has also told me I am required to keep any and all meal receipts to support the breaks on the log book. After all, he then told me I needed them for tax purposes. Do not, I take the daily per diem. I keep only the necessary receipts.
