So I accepted a load going to ridgewood and Hicksville, NY. I look them up this morning and discover that they're in Queens and Long island. I fully expect it to suck driving through there, but what can I expect specifically? I know bridge measurements are different.
Queens and Long Island are not bad at all. Just preplan your route beforehand and STICK TO IT. This is no time to try and wing it on a shortcut. The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278 )will have a a bridge marked as 12'4" and the sign will say all trucks must exit at Atlantic Ave, but you will clear it just fine. Don't exit at Atlantic. Oh, and remember NO TUNNELS and NO PARKWAYS. it will be an experience, so have fun. I used to enjoy going to NYC when I drove OTR.
I think these are a warning for an exit. I don't think you can hit the overhead roadway unless you drove up on the curb.
They are confident and aggressive with their driving. If your going down a street and a spot opens up in the parking lane enough for two cars to get by then expect two cars to pass. But it will only be two and not 4 or 5 like other places. Kinda nice in a way, theye aren't likely to do stupid stuff and panic, they just cut it close and keep going.
you should try and get their as early as possible before the traffic. At least itll be smooth going in.But out, could take up to 4 hrs before you see lite.I would ask customer for directions back to the interstate.
NYC is not bad, no worse than other big cities. Just have some patience and keep your cool. Know your route and you'll be fine.
