Been a sand hauler for a while now and decided I want to go chemical or flatbed. I have my first interview with a tanker company tomorrow, Martin Transport. They gave me a little information over the phone and asked if I could come in tomorrow for a tour etc.

Said their lanes are out and back, typically between 300-800 miles, home 2-3 nights a week which sounds pretty nice.

Just curious what other questions I should ask tomorrow since I don't really know jack about chemical hauling.

    Smut Thanks this.

on a side note, I've also got offers from a few flatbed companies, I feel like I'm at a fork in the road and not sure which way to go o_O

Is it mileage or percentage pay? Do they have accesorial pay for loading/unloading, preloading trailer, layover/breakdown, and other things like that. I'm sure you could make good money whether it's flatbed or tanker.

How much free time does the customer get, or does demurrage start on arrival?

your brave doing chemicals just the thought of the potential if a spill occurs kinda scares me that's why I've chosen only to haul diesel fuels.

I hope you have a better experience with them than my buddy did and it may very well be. He ran out of the Theodore, AL (Mobile) yard and he was miserable. He stayed with them 6 months, just long enough to get the vacation, then left them.

You are correct about the operations though. It was out and back. Paid by the load (not mileage or percentage).
