What form of identifications do companies use for background checks?

The employers I worked for in health care always took our fingerprints and receive state and FBI records. I am sure they also checked via our social security number, and not sure if they ever did DMV checks.

driving records, SS records, credit records, for the most part. if a driver has a TWIC card, then the FBI/Homeland Security checked him out. same for hazmat endorsements.

but for background checks there is more than one company. DAC is the most popular, but there is also Sterling, which i went through.

i can't think of any more right now.
