Hi guys and gals. Will be starting with another company in June and they require functional capacity testing. I have done some agility tests before but am not familiar with FCT and what it may involve. The company is Marten Transport, so if any of you drivers out there have any details on this testing,
please give me a shout. Thanks!

I think it is a test to determine if you are capable of withstanding various means of carrier abuse of drivers. Should be no problem if your job and pay expectations are low

I took one of those once. They check your heart rate and blood pressure before and after you climb and descend a 6' step ladder, lift 50lbs to chest level 5 times, lift 50 lbs to shoulder level 5 times, lift and carry 50 lbs for 25 feet, duck walk for 25 feet, and various other menial, nominal tasks. If you fail, then you really should be on disability anyway...

Amazes me how overly-litigious and "certification" happy our society has become.

Always been involved with open decks, be it lowboy, flatbed, step, maybe that's why I think these "agility" or "functional capacity tests" are asinine.

One of the toughest drivers I know is a spindly guy. You wouldn't think he's got much power, but, that'd about end when you see him pick up a 10x10in 3-ft long solid-oak block.

I've seen some very big guys with impressive agility, I've seen drivers 40 years older than me climb up machines with as much alacrity as myself, and I'm 22 and in reasonably decent health (smoker).

I've hung up on people in the past that told I would have do #### that made me look like a fool if I wanted to work for them. Walked out of a physical once too and when the prospective recruiter for the company I was thinking of leasing on with called me back I told him they needed me more than I needed them. They're the ones should be jumping thru hoops for me, not the other way around. Funny thing is they called me back like a month later and said my current physical was good enough. I had already made other arrangements however.

If they want to check my heart rate before and after, just show me a vintage picture of Pamela Anderson.
