I got a used general lee & it worked fine for a while then it stopped transmitting suddenly. I switched mics still nothing. I kno enough about electronics to fix if a wire broke or something but not positive where to look. There's not a cb shop within 200mi of me & wanted to see if it was something I can fix b4 I look elsewhere.
Stopped transmitting entirely or just audio? Do you have an external power meter to see what it is/isn't putting out?
Actually, how is your antenna system (antenna/mount/coax)? Although if your General Lee is like mine, it can handle antenna problems without breaking. But it will let the RF feedback into its receive and you will here it upon keying up. Fool-proof antenna warning; better than Cobra's unreliable antenna warning LED, IMO.
Stopped transmitting audio other drivers can here me key up that's all. When I key up the meter on cb swings all the way to right. No I don't have any external meters. I have 9ft of coax that is pretty new & a new 4ft francis antenna. I put my old cobra 29 back in truck & it works fine
Hmmm. I don't know. Enjoy that cobra for now. Did you try a different mic on the General Lee? Maybe the one that works on the Cobra if they're different.
Tried both my astatic & my cobra had same results. The cb was left in a truck when driver left oweing company money so they keep it & it sat in a tool box 5-6yrs they said so I hoped maybe something just came loose. If not can anyone recommend a trust worthy place to take it in the north Central Oklahoma area or someone I can mail it to.
Finding the right tech is very controversial on this forum. Here's my suggestion: Kelly Poots. Call him at 1 (928 246-1457. He did excellent work on my Cobra 25 and General Lee. Mail it to him in Las Vegas. Excellent prices, too!
Kelly has a spectrum analyzer and an oscilloscope. Many truck stop "techs" do not. Heck, they don't know what those are. He'll fix any problems and then optimize RX and TX within reasonable capabilities of the radio.
Thank you very much I'll give him a call. Yeah I've came across a couple of "Cb Techs" advertising on cb & when I ask em where their shop is they reply " just tell me where ur parked & I'll come to u" cause they worked out of the camper shell on pick up truck
It sounds like the audio amp is messed up in the radio, don't remember if the amp is separate from the receive amp or if it one in the same.
