I have been lurking on this board on and off for the past 8 months, and I have been seriously considering trucking over the past 3 months. I have taken the time to search through the forums, and it has answered most of my questions (along with ones I've never thought off). Thanks for making this a great resource.

I am determined to become truck driver, despite the poor economy. I will be going to SAGE in July or August.

The problem is that I have:
only 2 years of verifiable general work experience, and
a 3 pt moving violation "failure to obey traffic control device" over the past 3 years (but none in the past year).

    My Employment History:
    Current: 1 year 9 months
    College: 3 months Summer Semester
Previous: 4 months (Quit to focus on Summer Semester)
    College: 1.5 years
Unverifiable: 4 years (working for fathers' business during HS)

Without the context of College that big 3 month gap will be glaring along with the fact that I only stayed 4 months with my first employer.

How much does general work experience matter? Would they make an exception to the time in college? How does the interview usually go? I will I need to provide a tradtional resume or will the employment history be enough (along with the PTDI school, CDL, Background check, etc)?

    Thanks!

Carriers don't want resumes .They just look at their standard application . What you need to be concerned about is the traffic violation . There are thousands of applicants out there with clean MVR's .
