Long story short.....my ex-wife and I were going through our divorce and she gave me the vehicle back that we had bought together because she said she couldn't afford it. I was pulled over on the way back from the gas station, when I realized that the insurance card in the glovebox was expired. The officer wrote me a ticket and said that I could go to court with a valid card and it would be dropped. When I got back home I called the finance company to see if there was insurance on the van and they said no. They also advised me that the loan was $1,540 past due and in repossession status. I was in no position to catch the loan up, as I was unemployed at the time, so the van went back. The district attorney told me today that since I don't have a vehicle to get insurance on, they couldn't drop the ticket and I will have a fine and no insurance conviction on my record. I am in the pre-hire phase for Prime, with an orientation start date of January 3rd, 2014. Will this get me sent back home? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I want to say how helpful these boards have been the last couple of weeks and the information I've gotten from them has been priceless! Thanks to all of the contributors....I look forward to (hopefully) work with you.

Call Prime and ask. You don't have to give your name.

God help you if you live in a suspension state like Ohio.

Suspensions on a CDL? well...just call Prime asap.

I doubt very seriously that alone will be a deal breaker for most. In fact the repo may ding your credit enough where Prime won't hassle you constantly to do a lease program.

Well, give Prime a call, nonetheless.
It's the right thing to do, and you don't wanna hop on the grey dog for 20 hours and spend all that time down in MO just to find out they're not gonna hire you.

Thanks, I planned on telling them. I've read enough horror stories on here about not being up-front and getting the 'ol heave ho! Plus, I'm an honest guy. Just wondered what response to expect from the recruiter. It's Bud Pierce at Prime if anyone knows him.

The important thing is when the insurance actually "expired" relative to the ticket. "Normal" policies do not expire just because a payment is past due. Most states probably require the coverage continue for 30 days. Your state may stipulate more or less. If you had another vehicle insured that coverage may extend to another vehicle in your name but possessed by your wife if that coverage should lapse. If I had a question regarding my insurance coverage I'd call my insurer, not my bank.

As far as Prime is concerned, it's not a moving violation, so I doubt it will be a factor, unless your state awards points for lack of insurance or something. Trucking has plenty of drivers who've hit bumps along their roads.

Why is Ohio any different from any other state?

Ohio will suspend your license on the first time you're found to be driving without insurance.
It can be avoided if you have a lawyer, general- but the fines get huge.
