Can't speak to any of those companies soldier but, I wanted to check and see if you are aware of the VA On the Job Training program. Some really good carriers participate in this program and as long as you have GI Bill benefits available, especially Post 9/11, you can make some extra money (tax free). Essentially what happens is the VA will pay you separately (and this is in addition to your company pay) typically anywhere from $1000-$1300 a month for up to 12 months. Crete is certified by the VA for this program. Their sister companies, Shaffer and Hunt transportation, also are in the program. Schneider also participates. If you haven't already, make sure you talk to those companies about that program. Any company that is on the up-and-up should bring it up though as soon as they find out you are a veteran. Good luck!

Hello Comrade and welcome to the best trucker forum in the world!

I drove for Schneider for the first 3 years of my trucking career and I have no complaints about them. They are a great starter company.

I have never drove for Crete but know someone that has and according to him, they are on par with Schneider.

Now, your 3rd company is US press,,,which I am going to go out on a limb and say that you are referring to USXpress. If this is the company you are looking at, look no further! I drove solo for them and team with my wife. As a team, we did real good money wise, just couldn't handle that "way too big of company and no one knows who is who and communication between depts is nil", feeling. As a solo they will run you when you have hours, no matter what time it is. In other words, lets say you were given a load at 9am to puckup 150miles away at noon. Your almost there and than you find out, the load got canceled So, now you wait for your next load. It never comes so, around 10pm you decide to go to bed, since you have been up all day. Next thing you know, someone from corp. calls you at 2am, wanting you to take a load ASAP! You say, "I am sleeping?!" They say, "you have the hours". This happened to me more than 3 times and I only put up with it because I knew my wife was in CDL School.

I know it sucks having to go through a CDL school when you are an 88M in the Army...Sure wish they would change that but anyway,,,you will do fine in school. Where are you located?
