Hi Im curious about the crst training program. Now Before i Go fill out the appilcation for them to send me to school. I talked to the recruiter the other day and he said the school they work with thats close to me is in albany Ga. Any good or bad stories about this location? Also another thing, Do I need to go ahead and have my cdl class a permit before i go to the class that way i just do the driving aspect of it? Or everything is done up there? He said the class would average about two weeks, Now in that two weeks will i learn everything there is to learn or is just a fast paced scheme to see if youve got it or not? My dad has drove for several companies including Van, Flatbed, and tanker And ive went out with him on several trips so as far as the road life goes not a problem. And how good is there home time once youve Finished your 28 day training period.
Get your permit before you go. you will learn the basic stuff enough to pass driving test. 28 days of training is where you get better at backing home time 1 day per week minim 2 weeks dispatch perfers you run 4 weeks between home time dont plan any appt's on your 1st day home odds are you wont make it.
The school you most likely will attend is Ace school. I don't know anything about them. I do know there is a dmv testing facility in Albany Ga. and that is why I know of ACE and where they will test for your CDL. I also saw Roadmaster students testing there this last week. There were students from the school I am attending that were trying to test and get their CDL's there. They were making some stupid mistakes. If you think you have completed the maneuvers and you think you have the truck "in the box", Don't blow your horn to indicate you are done. GET OUT AND LOOK! If there is any question (as in--- am I real close to the line, do a pull-up, readjust, Get OUT AND LOOK!, then blow your horn to indicate you are done. We had one guy that was right on the line fail because of this. He would have got his CDL if he would have done this....It was like his fifth time trying to test through the maneuvers...Did I mention, GET OUT AND LOOK! Don't take the glad hands off unless an inspector tells you to. Air Brake test ----- After you pull out your brakes (you just tested tractor and trailer brakes) and you switch the key off, You have to turn the key back on to pump your air pressure down with your service brake pedal. If you don't turn the key on and touch the brakes, THAT IS AN AUTOMATIC FAIL! ------= Nuff said. If you stall out on road test, Automatic Fail! If you curb the tires, automatic fail. So, while you are at the school, practice those exercises, Learn the pretrips, pay attention! oh, Did I mention, GET OUT AND LOOK! walk all the way around your vehichle and look---- laziness has it's rewards. Good Luck, Temptinfates
If you curb tires with 40k pound load.. automatic blowout and possible bent rim. Better have a good story to tell your FM.
Last I heard, they want at least a one year commitment to team driving... other companies will upgrade you to solo within two months, provided you prove competent enough to handle the truck and handle your business. A year of teaming... that's a long time, hand. Just throwin' down my $.02, those other guys gave good advice no matter which company you choose. Good luck!
CRST Van Expedited is a Team only company. Which means if you remain a company driver you will be running team your entire time with them. I am a company driver for them right now, as is my wife. Luckily, she is my co-driver.
Baaaad choice of a company. LOWEST pay in the industry. Not just low, LOWEST. and thats purely by looking at cents per mile. Actually i've curbed tires very slowly with a 45k load in a tank with aluminum rims, no blowout...
Crst is not the lowest paying company. I've been looking around. They now have a new training program. After the 28 days you go to a terminal and get tested. Then you go out for 2 weeks with your co-driver. Then you go home.
