So I'm taking 2 meds. Zyprexa and klonopin-(that I stop taking tue) if I'm turned down for that or med reasonz, will it be on my record? Should I just stay home and wait for it to be out of my system? I'm anxious to get working but don't wanna mess myself up forever
Delay orientation until you're clean. Make up some story as to why you need to delay. Set up a new date with the company.
Off both on Tuesday or just the klonopin? The klonopin will more than likely pop on a drug test. Might want to consult your local pharmacist to see if they can give you a time frame that it stays in your system. They can be a wealth of knowledge. Not sure what the other med is but one should probably not be driving a CMV with the klonopin in their system. Better safe than sorry for popping positive on a drug test... Agree best to wait. Good Luck, MD
I asked my pharm actually, takes 150 hrs and klpn on Tues. Zyprexa is called a psychotropic which I understand trucking companies don't want you on.
Some of the side affects!.....Yikes! No need to be driving on that stuff! new or worsening seizures; severe drowsiness; unusual changes in mood or behavior; confusion, aggression, hallucinations; thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself; weak or shallow breathing; pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest; or unusual or involuntary eye movements. Common Klonopin side effects may include: feeling tired or depressed; drowsiness, dizziness; memory problems; or problems with balance or coordination.
I was prescribed Xanax as a driver, used for a sleep aid. Benzo's don't show up on a dot 5 panel btw. The only issue I had was them requiring a signed note from my doc saying she understood DOT regs and that she did not feel they would inhibit my driving ability/safety in any way. Best bet would be to call the safety department for the company you're looking at and ask them if they have a specific company policy. You can't "fail" a drug test for taking your prescribed medications, part of the mro review is them verifying your medications with your primary doc. I.E. I "failed" my latest hair test for opiates, after the mro was able to verify I was legally prescribed painkillers for a broken hand they reported the test as negative. It just adds a few days to the process of getting results back.
While I don't know which drugs create issues within the industry, one must weigh which is better... Staying on a useful med that works for you, or trying to enter a new industry, if they are not allowed... May want to talk to your doctor to see if there are options that would be complementary with a driving career. Again, if it's something that would create an issue for you. If it's working for you, but it's not allowed, seriously consider if driving is to be a career choice for you. Unless an alternate is used. Good Luck.
