Tomorrow my new boss and I are going to go otr for the first week until I get my hazmat (should be in the mail next week).

I am a bit nervous about this because it's my first time meeting him and we are going to be in the cab together for a week basically then after that he's going to let me have the truck to myself. I am nervous to have someone I don't know yet, WITH me that up close and personal 24 hrs a day basically, who is going to be my employer. He may be a great guy and he may be a jerk, I don't know. I hate this day before anxiety. In another 48 hours I'll probably be just fine and know where I stand.

This job is hauling oil to asphalt people and i understand seasonally they shut down when it gets too cold. I don't know how much longer that will be or what "too cold" means. After that he says it's flatbed work thru winter months. What are typical wages for flatbed work? I don't know what that will pay if it will be on the same level as the oil hauls. What is typical? This is my first trucking job and I am in that "getting experience" mode. My FIRST trucking job after getting my cdl. I remind myself that at the core this job is driving after all and I have prepared myself for this by being a good driver for the past 30 years so it's not the driving that makes me nervous it's the politics.

I'm hoping that I can get into something local asap and some good money like hauling gas I hear is good. I see this as a good experience to that goal to haul oil otr. I am not closed to the possibility of staying on with him either. I thought I would not make that decision at this point and just keep learning and see what fits and what doesn't down the road.

I would be happy for any suggestions on how to manage privacy and cab time with the boss. Are there any do's and don'ts? ...and anything else relevant of course feel free to tell me everything. :)

Don't mean any harm here, but don't you think you should have asked these payroll questions of your employer BEFORE you got hired?

You are going to be in a square box smaller than your bedroom with your Boss 24/7 What Privacy?

to manage privacy while in the truck, just don't get naked in the bunk when you go to sleep and forget where you are and walk out....

i kinda think your junk might frighten the boss into a heart attack, or maybe perhaps a "love attack"....one never knows the true inner-self of a boss...:biggrin_2559:

    i wish you well.......

Just be glad the truck stops don't have the 'communal showers' like they had 30 years ago...

One of the first trips I made for Parkhurst Manufacturing in 1967 was a trip with my boss, vice president of the company. We hauled truck platforms from Sedalia, MO to Corpus Christi, TX with a Cracker Box GMC. On the way back, we spent a couple of days in New Orleans at his expense. That company paid my meals and lodging anyway. Then, we picked up a new Dorsey flatbed in Elba, AL and loaded our old trailer onto the new one. We dropped off the old trailer at a lumber company in Russelville, AR and loaded lumber back to Sedalia. Later, I bobtailed to Russelville for lumber loaded on the old trailer.

Bottom line is that my boss found out exactly how loud, hot, and underpowered that Jimmy was.

well if he doesn't call me with a time and place to meet maybe he's not serious about the offer? I guess I'll know by day's end if I need to keep lookin or not.
