Hello all. In about a month or so I'll be going to a local community college to go get my full CDL as I have my permit already. I am not going the company-sponsored route, so don't mention that. But I'm already just researching companies to work for since I'm such a forward thinking person. Anybody got a decent list? I'd go to a mega if I must, but it'd be nice to start with a smaller company. I am in central Alabama, if that helps. No flatbed, either.

    Thanks in advance!

FIND the job BEFORE going to CDL school. THERE IS NO DRIVER SHORTAGE. The industry is in a deep deep slump. You may not get hired after you get the CDL for months and months. The goal should be a job, not the easiest or most convenient school. Some trucking companies have their own school. Some trucking companies only hire from certain CDL schools. Find the company that will hire you with no experience and then see which CDL school option makes sense to get hired for THAT job. CDL school is not college where you have lots of time for networking and research. Few companies are hiring newbies with perfect records right now. If you don't have a job waiting on you before you go to school you may be unemployed long enough that some companies will require you go take a refresher course before they hire you. Guess who pays for that refresher course, you.

What trucking companies are within a convenient drive to where you live? Call them and ask if they hire newbies and what CDL schools they hire from.

Oddly many of these are flatbed which you don't want.

OK. Also, don't be scared of mega companies. Those companies are stable and have million-mile drivers that have been there for years.
