Going to Oregon for the first time since 1996

Ok I am on my way to Oregon for the first time since I was with a trainer when I started Driving in 1996.

So what should I know before I get there.

 

Enjoy the nudist camp along the Columbia river on I-84 close to Mt. Hood where all the no parking signs are.

 

If you're an independent- Make sure you call ODOT and get a temp. pass before you enter the state. It's a $520 fine if you don't have one.

If you're an L/O- Check with your carrier and see how they are set up with the state. Make sure you have a copy of your lease agreement in the truck. Again, it's a $520 fine if you're not in compliance.

If you're a company driver- You might want to check with your dispatcher before you enter. You will be delayed at the POE if the ODOT permit is not in order. Could be a couple of hours, or more.

 

got a honda load to portland from loudon?
check and make sure your permit book is up to date.

 

Don't buy more fuel than you ahve to to get out of state as the taxes are the highest in the US. We didn't run there unless we had to because it was more expensive than WA or MT ID.

 

Oh YA, the scales on I 84 are still open and nasty as ever and the hill into Pendleton is just as step and windy as ever and it still snows up there. The Flying J is just as dirty too.

 

Bring lots of money. I have never been up there but here it is beautiful. You might go in and find you don't want to leave, and just set up a tent there and live LOL...

 

Well I made it in no problems, Got lucky at the Scales. They pulled the 3 trucks in front of me, and I sneaked on through. Got in way early and found no place to park so I went on to my receiver and parked till my appointment time. So once they are done I should have my 10 hour break done with.

I think they are still communist with a speed limit of 55....OMG! Really don't know for sure, we don't go there often and haven't seen this truck ever do 55!
