Well I just got home from the Texas DPS office and I passed My Driving Test. I now have to wait till Wife gets home from visiting Her family then I'll be going to Phoenix to Start My Driven Job with Swift. I'm going to give Flatbeding a try first to see how I like it. If I can't handle it or Don't like it I'll move over to Dry Van.

I'm hoping I can get a good 24 days of driven in to do My 240 hours, So I can go Solo and Be home for Xmas to spend it with My Family.

I did it all On My own and it wasn't hard at all. I just need to work on parallel parking.

Right now the wife is gone till the 17Th on Next Month so I'm guessing on or around, Monday the 22nd. They do start Orientation on Mondays right?

When waiting to take My test I saw 20 Swift trucks drive by... That's a Omen in My book.

    Mystic,
You mentioned you got your CDL all on your own. I happen to be studying for the Knowledge tests now, also on my own. I picked up a CDL Prep book from the local library, downloaded the Texas Commercial Drivers Handbook, and have been reading trucker's forums and watching youtube vids for some informative and free information. Some really great resources, that are all free, and I can study at my leisure. Could you explain how you did your skills test at the Texas DPS office? Did you rent or borrow a tractor/trailer rig? And, how was Swift's response to your having earned your CDL without having gone to a "school?

    thanks......

I rented a Truck with flat bed from a company called CDLexpress. They are here in Houston.

When swift called me last week about Me filling out an application. I told Jill ( recruiter out of the Dallas area ) that this week I'll have My Class A CDL. She then asked what school I went to. I told her I didn't go to a school, I was doing it all on My own. She was very happy for Me and told Me swift will take Me.

When I go I just go for orientation, then a mentor (240 hours), then I get My own truck. As of right Now I'm really thinking of going Flat bed, But dry Van is still in the running. Tomorrow I'll be talking with a neighbors friend that runs a flat bed. He has to move some stuff out to his ranch so I'll get a day of flatbeding from him plus some insights of the work and some loads.\

banjo317, If Your still looking for a company and You want to talk to swift I'll PM you Jills number. Let Me know if You want it.
