Hi All, New to the forum here. Lots of useful insights, but I've been searching around for an answer for this one, but I haven't found an answer to lead me in the right direction. We're a new trucking company with one power unit and trailer. We have an opportunity to win a contract from a shipper, but we have to scale our capacity to more than one driver. We are considering renting from Ryder, and I'm curious if we have to put our plates on the rental truck since this contract will be running under our authority, any thought?
No they will have plates for the trucks. I would ask them about ifta. I seem to remember reading somewhere that someone rented from ryder or Penske and there was something about paying the ifta. I can't remember exactly. I'm sure someone with more information will chime in soon.
Better be a good paying contract, rental trucks will eat up profit in a hurry. A day cab tractor is like $180 a day, plus ins. & fuel.
Ryder and Penske file IFTA. They both have trip sheets that need to be filled out and they require fuel receipts. I have driven both.
Check your local truck dealerships to see what they offer. Our long term Penske leases run under my IFTA and NY HUT but their IN Plates and their FED HUT. Any substitute 'rental' units have to fill out the trip log and submit fuel receipts other wise they charge $$$.$$ for IFTA and all of their invoices and fees come directly from the bank account... I think each unit runs around $1600.00 a a month which at 7 years equals the purchase price. Yeah normal maintenance, road service, sub rentals and tires are included and we get 'dinged' for any damages, etc.. looking back at the junk we replaced, this was the best way for us; your mileage may vary!
