Well I will be making my first solo run next week. I will be picking up a load in Point Comfort, TX on Tuesday, drop it in Baton Rouge, LA on Wednesday then go back to the Point on Thursday load and head back up to Austin. I did this same trip last week ( minus the load back to Austin ) so at least I know were I' m going. I' ve only been driving since October so I am very green. Like many new drivers backing is not my strong point and this drop is quite tight.

What truck stops/ rest areas should I stop at and which ones should I avoid along I-10 ? Also any good tips to make this trip go smoother I would be grateful.

I like to stay at the Conoco in Texas, exit 797 or 798, there's a good Mexican bar,er, restaraunt (Iguana Joe's) a short walk from there. North on, I think, Highway 146.
By Baton Rouge, I stay at the old truckstop across from the Love's at Exit 151, not much there however, but usually a parking spot. There is a topless bar behind it, but I never walked back to it.
