Anybody have a SmartPhone and think of how great an APP would be if it could "just do this" or "just do that"?

I know that as SmartPhones are becoming more and more standard in our industry, I am starting to notice some APP's that have been created and are being directed with the truck driver in mind.

One APP I would like to see is an APP that is linked to my Qualcomm.

When I am doing my trip planning, or after the trip is complete..... I would like to be able to sit down, away from the truck and do my paperwork and be able to have access to some of the information on my Qualcomm.

Maybe it already exists and I just haven't been smart enough to use my SmartPhone? :biggrin_2551:

you don't get paid to do paperwork. you only get paid to DRIVE. so let the office worry about paperwork. it's what THEY get paid for.

U.S. Xpress has an app that you can see your preplans and loads. It don't have normal messages but its still pretty nice if your waiting for a load(which hardly happens) so you don't have to stay in the truck waiting.

Already there Coyote, FM needs to set you up with QC server access / password . Use smart phone via web to see and dl logs, info etc. Put q.c icon on phone for instant access.

QC can also email you your logs. FM has to allow it and i believe there is a cost. Fax is free tho.

My MCP runs Windows CE, I'm working on interface to go through USB port. My geek will be home next week on break, hope she can help daddy........

    Good luck

Us Xpress Is partially there with the app. We can get dispatch info and accept preassigns from the app and track repower trucks.

She was nominated to join the research team by her prof. that is / will change computer chips from silicon based to carbon based. According to my daughter this will change computing in ways we can't imagine. The computing power would be almost limitless as would storage and all in your hand.

    I can't wait!!!!

i'm pretty sure there are already carbon based chips around. but it's still a new technology that hasn't really gotten off the ground yet.

and as for computing power. msft doesn't see a future in computers. everything it going tablet and cell phone based now.

but either way. goody for her. wished my kids had that kinda ambition.

what is she studying to get her degrees in????

She has her M.C.S.E. with 2 minors from msft and she's a computer science major. This team I speak of is a college based research team of students and teachers and funded by corporations . It would be a prestigious notch in her gun to be on it. Would set the tone for just what type of job and whom she would get it from.

I'll have to ask her the wassup to get a better idea of just what their goals are.

No worries man, this one did NOTHING out of high school. Graduated early and just hung out....... for 4 years! Ugh! Slept late, nickle and dime jobs and then one day BA-BONG! She's applying to schools, getting grant apps and the next minute she's gone. That was 4 years ago. Been in school ever since.

Got another one doing the same thing only male, shicks, mud, 4 wheel drives, smelly friends. Not a Dr.type but will do well....if he can get going. One of his buds showed up in a new truck......pretty too. Son asked how he got that...... I told him, work, save, credit. His friend might have done me a favor, we'll see.

My whole point: Some are late bloomers and some are real late. Keep watching! They may surprise you......

    Later.....

This is true. Intel and IBM have been working on it for a while now. Think of it as a bed of nails, they have maxed out the number of nails they can fit on the board so now they are making the nails longer. Carbon is the way to do this. Chips will now get thicker but the power that can flow through them will increase dramatically. www.businessinsider.com/ibm-carbon-nanotubes-chip-technology-2012-10
