Have you ever switched to a different company and regretted it?

If so, which company and position was it that you switched from and which company and position did you switch to?

 

Yes, working for a local company now and I hate it, pay is good, but I love OTR so going back to my old company. Local company is Williams systems and my old company is PAM

 

Pulled my last load for my old company this morning, start with my new company friday. There's always potential for regret when moving on, but it can be minimized by doing some thorough research before making a decision. In my case it wasn't a question of should I go, but where to go. I spent almost a year looking at all my options before I finally
decided on my new home, and as soon as I turned in my notice I felt better about life than I have in several years.

 

Op, did you switch only to find that the grass on the other side was dead?

 

Lol, I don't even have my cdl yet. The question was just to see how many people get fooled by recruiters so I would know how cautious to be.

 

You shouldn't be job jumping anyway. Fooled by recruiters? I don't even know what that means.

 

I know a lot of people that did and ended up back at the original company less than six months later. That's kind of my fear about a local job. I'm qualified, but from what I hear, the good paying jobs pay good cause ya life at home sucks.

My advice to new drivers.. is dont have that job hop mentality. .. it wo t serve you well in the long run..


New drivers should not just be looking at companies that will hire them now.. also look at companies that they need experience for... see what those companies want.. you will see a lot of good companies that want 2 to 3 years experience.. and with no more than two companies... so, a driver who has 6 months with this with this company and 7 months with that company then 9 months with another company and a year with thir current company.. may have almost 3 years experience.. but has job hopped their way out of a lot of opportunities...

Also, you need to try and get as much experience as you can in those first couple years.. that is where a mega can be beneficial... with werner I have pulled van, reefer and flatbed.. done regional, OTR and Dedicated...
With Schneider you can get experience pulling van, reefer, flatbed and tanker... and you can do it without ruining your job history...

Those drivers who job hop are often only chasing pennies... they get few more cents per mile... but hurt themselvs in the long run...

The top companies want experience and a good work ethic and history.. and you wont get it in just 6 months.. you needa couple to few good years of experience..
