Already pre applied for hazmat on the website, going next Friday to give TSA my fingerprints. I know it generally takes 30-45 days to complete the background check and receive a yes or no letter. Is it something where they can add the endorsement but you can't legally run hazmat until you pass that background check? Trying to figure out if I should go down to the dmv and test for my endorsement in that 30-45 day period or should I wait until I'm cleared? I need to start my hazmat bg check and get tanker within 30 days of starting with averitt and even though I don't need it I'm gonna toss doubles/triples on it... I just want to do it all at once.
no. once cleared the feds will notify your home state dmv if you passed. once you passed take your letter to the dmv and get endorsement
i know some states let you take the test. if you pass then when you get letter back and you are cleared. they will add endorsement then. but no horse before the cart stuff
Thank you, as hard as this may be to believe, the officer at the dmv had no clue and told me to call the FBI (she said FBI not TSA) and they could tell me. Well, when I called TSA, they were just as useless.
just do background and move on. i got mine back in a week. but im special. but i truly dont thk it will take a whole 30 days.
It shouldn't take too horribly long. I use to hold a top secret security clearance and I've worked for the public school system for the last 4 years... So I should be squeaky clean.
I had a letter from the Illinois dmv exactly 7 days after I got fingerprint and background done. But that letter said I had to wait for the tsa letter to come in, which came 3 days later.
