After driving locally for ten years finally going to get my otr done. Heading to Memphis Tenn for orientation on Nov. 15. Anyone have any pointers for me
Thanks I will make sure I dot all my I's and cross all my t's and be a sponge and soak up as much info as I can.
Make sure Swift has every scrap of paper they need to complete your hire. If any information is missing, get it to them. Talk to your recruiter before you go and ensure you have everything in place to go to work immediately. The two things people get sent home from orientation for are incomplete paperwork and failed wizz quizzes.
They have already done my background, mvr, and job verification. Had to wait 2 weeks for Arizona to give me the ok. Is there some other paperwork I should be aware of. A second question is will I have to do do a in city road test or close qtr test or does Swift not do one of these?
Sounds like your paper chase is pretty complete. I can't answer the road test question. They never tested me when I went back.
I was just asking because the recruiter told me I wouldn't have to do that since I am 90,000 miles short of having a million and a half miles city tractor driving. In Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, and Nashville. The worst dock I've ever bumbed was in Nashville it was a chicken house you had to pull up on the street across three active train tracks that didn't have drop gates open yours doors then back across those same three train tracks to get on their dock not to mention it was a main road so you had to hope that a car didn't try to go around you as you were on the tracks. You couldn't do a blindside alley back from the other way cause they had a telephone pole there. I pulled up one and a Tyson chicken truck had tried that and split the pole in half knocking the power out to 4 warehouses nearby.
Back in 2000 there road test involved driving down the road about 4 or 5 miles changing lanes the standard stuff, as far as there backing all you had to do was back into a double parking spot between two trailers. That was in memphis. i think what and how your test is done has alot to do with the person doing the test. As long as you are confident and listen to any advice they give you will be ok. The employees who give me my test for were all 10 -15 year drivers. I think attitude has alot to do with if they think you are ready or not. GOOD LUCK
Got my bus ticket to Memphis last weekend with the family then off to orientation on Monday wish luck
