Ok. So I am home after training and my first solo run and I locked my keys in my truck in my driveway. I tried all the tricks to get it unlocked and it wouldn't budge. Finally I was about to get it and BOOM my side window on the drivers side shatters. The little triangle one. I am driving a 2009 freightliner columbia. I work for Roehl are they going to fire me??? My wife is a nervous wreck and she said from the beginning to call them company and ask what their procedure is for locked trucks. Maybe I should have listened. Help??
just call a glass shop and PAY to have it repaired, now they will know about it because someone at that company will drop a dime on you now, should have never put the company name on the message board
No they won't fire you. They might take the repair cost out of your check and put the incident on your Dac report. Just call them and let them know what happen and they will tell you where to go to get it fixed.
Ok. THIS IS A BIT LATE....BUT HIDE A KEY UNDER THE HOOD...ALSO ALWAYS KEEP ONE IN YOUR POCKET...AND TELL THE TRUTH....CHANCES ARE U WILL BE CHARGED FOR THE WINDOW......JUST TELL COMPANY LOCK YOUR SELF OUT TRYED TO GET IN AND U POPED THE LITTLE WINDOW...HEY IT HAS HAPPEND BEFOR TO ALOT OF DRIVERS..BUT TELL THE TRUTH...GD LUCK..
Lock Smiths charge almost 300 dollars or more sometimes to open up your truck. So you might want to get a key made and use the Sammy techniques in the future. Also if you ever have to call one. Make sure they quote you the truck price not the car price. Amazing how much it goes up when he finds out you drive a truck.
Roehl won't fire you,I don't think they'll even get mad.But you will have to pay for another wing window.Heck what you did is minor compared to other things that happen daily with companies.I've locked my keys in the trk a few times.I suggest you get a couple keys made and always have one on your possession.
Oh and what you said about maybe you should have listen to your wife, yes you should have women know best, lol.
Here's my rule. Keep a spare key on your person, in a different pocket than usual, on a unique key ring, and NEVER take it out except if you lock your regular key in the truck. That rule has saved my forgetful rear end several times, usually in a time or place when it'd be really inconvenient to call dispatch. Freightliner keys are cheap and Lowes/Home Depot can usually whip a copy up in seconds for cheapish.
just call the window shop and have another installed. and pay for it. you probably will anyways and if you go through company. might even be a mark up. and if you pay for it. the window man has no reason to bother with the company. so company will never know. suckee thing about wing windows. for some reason they are the most expensive window to replace. i've had my car broke into twice. they always take out the back door wing. A holes.
for next time zip tie a key to the steering section under the hood. and think of the bright side you could have got out to take a leak in your pjs and locked yourself out in the winter. just get if fixed and go on with your life. or you could gray tape the hole up and wait about a week and tell them someone tryed to break into your truck at the truck stop. lots of luck
