Hello all. Been lurking on the board here for around 2 years, this is my first post. Just started CDL school today at Great Lakes Truck Driving School in Ohio. It's a 200 hr course in 4 weeks 10.5 hours / day. I have all my endorsements completed (TSA verification is done as well). I am very interested in being a tank hauler. Just not sure which route would be best to take.

I noticed today that Superior Carriers visited my school on June 21. My school has a calendar that lists recruiters stopping by, July hasn't been posted yet. Hopefully they come back, as my start date was today the 27th. Would be nice to talk to a recruiter face to face.

So what I was wondering was, what would you seasoned vets suggest as far as starting out in the tanker division? What would be the smart choice? Are drivers happy at Superior? I've seen some positive posts here, as well as Glassdoor on Superior Carriers. I'm the kind of guy that likes to settle down in a company and just stay there. Is Superior the kind of company you would stay with till you retire?

What I want out of a company is stability, opportunity for good pay/benefits, option to move from OTR after 5 years or so (saving up for a house) to a local position. I'm interested in living around Nevada, Arizona, Texas, or New Mexico area eventually. I'm 42, live in Cleveland, Ohio and single. Looking for help to make a good decision. Thanks to everyone in advance for help, looking forward to reading your replies. Off to bed, need to be at school in 9 hours.

A recruiters job is to smile, lie and make you smile and agree that yes it's the greatest place this side of Saint Peter and the Golden Gate.

Schools job is to teach you enough to be safe during the state exam. The Company that hires you will give you a trainer however long it takes before you are given a solo.

There is nothing they will teach you in a thousand blessed hours that you will not learn over the rest of your life out there on the big road.

Good luck, you will like the tanker work. It's a nice start. Most people who wanna drive dont even have a focus as you do.

Superior-Carriers is top notch. If they will hire you, then go for it.
Big paychecks right out of cdl school; smart move.
