Well I am basically going to tell a story in the hopes that someone out there will be able to help me. The man I love really wants to get back behind the wheel of a truck. It is more than a passion it is more than a dream...it is a wonderful obsession. you see in November of 2007 he made a huge mistake; his wife was cheating on him and neglecting their 3 boys so he made the right decision to leave her but this broke his heart ...so he drank...then had an accident which got him a DUI conviction in February of 2009. The officer prolonged the court date numerous times to add insult to injury. At any rate he knows it is his fault and literally beats himself up every day because of it. I understand that insurance companies have to protect the companies from high risk drivers but I wish that there was just one company out there that would give him a chance. He injured no one or anything but himself and his personal vehicle; his record is spotless other than this. Unless someone can help he has to wait another almost 2 years to drive again. I have never met anyone that wants something so badly as he does. I swear he sleeps, eats, drinks and breaths driving. He will not be fully happy until he can drive again; it is in his blood. In closing, if anyone out there knows of a company that will give him a chance, I sure would love the info. Thank you and keep on trucking...

    Good one!

Sorry but the man you love is most likely gonna be out of luck for a long time. A lot of companies won't give him the time of day.

His chances might be better if he went to work for an owner operator. So tell him not to waste his time with a major company. We all make mistakes, but that was a foolish one regardless, he knew better.

2 year old DUI with an accident, the fact he did not hurt anyone is irrelevant as that was luck rather than any action he did, will make ever getting behind the wheel difficult let alone so soon. Most commercial insurance will not touch you while you must carry an SR-22 and PA is 3 years I think so maybe after that with an O/O.

ZVar's comment was funny. Being on this forum for a long time I've seen alot of stories and yours is no different. We all have some issues and we express them on here. Thats what made his comment even funnier. Its not like we always talk truck here.

You came on here asked a question and got a realistic answer. Now I'm rude for being honest......

Well, here is your sugar coated answer............ Don't worry, all these companies will be banging your door down the second those years are up! They will also be the best companies out here!:biggrin_25517:

Here's the rude part.............! He screwed up big time cause his ex screwed around on him, whats he gonna do when something really bad happens? Another DUI!? What if he's out in the truck? A DUI in a truck?

The rude part is just an example of what a company may think. Personally, I don't know you or your hubby/boyfriend. I'm not saying he's a heavy drinker, he just got caught the one time he decided to be.

Wish you luck, your gonna need it!

The people where I'm leased at would politely laugh at him and hang up.
    He's toast....

Most places I think will say never, then there are a few after 5 years he might get a slight chance..

Better start looking for a new line of work.

Insurance companies usually go back and check the last 3 years on your mvr. Most likely he will need to wait at least until it drops off his mvr before anyone will be able to cover him under their insurance. Most carriers require at least 5-10 years to pass before they will hire someone with a DUI. This is not a very forgiving industry when it comes to alcohol or drug convictions.

He might look for a smaller carrier that will give him a try. I think it will be difficult as long as the DUI is still on his mvr. If it is something he really wants to do then he will need to start knocking on doors. He might consider checking with companies who have dump trucks. They are not always as strict with their policies. He might check with the local state employment office. I would explain the situation to them and see if they might help. There are also other types of jobs he might consider. The one thing that will help is that he wasn't in a commercial vehicle when it happened. If he had been in an 18 wheeler he would really be up the creek.

He will need to convince any potential employer that this was an isolated incident and it won't happen again.
