HELP please! I didn't qualify for Financial assistance. Loan Reimbursement OK?

The state of IL has a Workforce investment act or WIA. What they are willing to do if your app gets accepted by the WIA review board is pay for which ever schooling you may need. I have wasted two weeks waiting for that and now that I found out I will not be getting my grant from the WIA program I need another way to pay for school.


How does Loan Reimbursement for truckers work? Is it a bad Idea? What are my other options? I'm not sure my father will cosign on a loan for me and I have NO credit.

Why did the WIA, case manager, disallow the training grant for you?

 

I have a prior bad employment history and a low math Score (been out of school since I was 17 i'm 29 now and use a calc LOL... ) Employment: My last job and actually my only real job lasted for 8 months and I was let go because the company said I didn't show on a day I was supposed to work. I actually reviewed the dates I was supposed to work and I wasn't to work that day so wrongfully fired. I applyed for unemployment got it and the company appealed the unemployment then it went to court and I won my case twice (they appealed again)

Before all that I worked for subway for a few months then moved ect. I also worked 3 months as a dish washer.

The thing now is I need a perm job for my family and I really want trucking to be it because really this IS my last option at this time. BUT I really have wanted to be a trucker for about 7 years it gets my blood flowing when I think about it hehe...


So what do I do?

 

Have you called Bob at Lincoln Land Community College?

They used to offer student loans for the training there at the college.

 

Yeah I did and no I can't get a loan there. I feel like I'm up S creek with out a paddle HAHA

 

You might have to consider the option of schooling through a company.

I know that in your area there are not many truck companies. You have the local loonies. Curry. I live in a neighboring county.

In order to get the training, these companies require a contract.

Are you sure you really want to be gone for 2-3 weeks at a time with maybe 2 days off. You have a young child to consider.

 

I would say try and get training from a company that will pay for it. But good luck getting on with any company right now, only reason I say that is you're 29 and say you've only had 1 "real" job that lasted 8 months. Nothing against you but it is not a drivers market for jobs, there are so many people applying for jobs that the companies can pick and choose

 

Yes I'm sure I want to be gone like that. My wife and I talked it over. We feel because they are only 1 and 2 months that it would be better than say if they were 5 years old. If I can get a year in hopefully I can get a regional route. That's the idea for us anyways.. Contract- How does that work?

What would be some big company's to try for schooling?

 

Swift, Pam, Central, CR England, Stevens.

There are others, but to name a few.

 

So again how would a contract work and could I be screwed over by 1 ?
