Help plz on auto shifts....

    DO AUTO SHIFTS TRANS. HAVE THE SAME KINDA HORSE POWER UP HILLS LIKE THE MANUALS?? ABOUT TO SWITCH COMPANYS AND I CURRENTLY DRIVE A 10 SPEED TRANS. SO NEED TO KNOW HOW THE AUTO SHIFTS ARE POWER WISE SPECIALLY UP HILLS !! THERE TRUCKS ARE INTERNATIONALS IF THAT HELPS ANY. THANKS :biggrin_25515:

    Auto shift takes no horsepower off the top. Some drivers like them and some don't. In my experience, they don't shift very fast, but that is limited to a couple of the non Eaton offerings.

    I own a Volvo with a Eaton Auto Shift, The power up the hills is the same.
    If you don't like the gear selection than you can put the tranny in manual and select your own gear. The Auto shift and the Ultra Shift are manual transmissions that are worked by computer..:biggrin_25516:

    Doesn't the autos not have engine break when descending grades? I've heard if you drive an auto some companies won't hire you w/o a refresher course on driving a manual again.

    engine brakes work just fine with autoshifts, in fact my engine brake equipped autoshift works a little too well
