Thank u and be safe out there tonight and I pray to the good lord above that u guys return safe sound to your love ones!!!
Well James Bond! I would certainly check into Prime, Not that they are the best but between your two, Prime has more of an array to go whichever way you can go! I'm not excited about Prime but they are who they are! Remember they make loads of money off of people that fail to make truck payments, and then they try to stick a payment to you!. Good Luck with your decisions.
Just from what I've gotten on this site, Prime seems to be an OK place as far as companies that give CDL training. I'd look into Roehl and Maverick as well, if you're in the hiring area.
Between those two I would probably go with Prime (more options, tank, reefer, and flat) Just do not let them talk you into the lease to own route until you have worked for them at least 18 months, by then the "honeymoon" will be over and you will have seen their good and bad (and they will have seen yours). If that is your end game then sit back and watch and learn from other peoples mistakes and success's and then decide if that is what you want to do. Way too many people blindly jump right in to the truck owner thing with out having all the facts.
Not that I've seen. There isn't a down payment on a straight lease... so where's this money they're going to make? If you walk away from the lease, your debits in the tire escrow account are balanced against the mileage account and necessary repairs. Keep the truck in good order, and chances are you'll come out ahead of the game. It's a straight lease for the most part, although a couple different lease-purchase deals do exist. NO ONE pushes leasing at Prime... it's a decision you make for yourself. And yeah, I recommend that one runs the company side for a couple of years before even thinking about it. You need to figure the business out, and jumping into a lease without $2k to $4k in the bank for business purposes is just plain stupid. Both carriers do an adequate job in training new drivers. I spent some time talking with a long-term Stevens driver last week, and the amount of BS Stevens puts their drivers through is phenomenal IMO.
Prime seems to be decent folks. I can second the fact that lease is not even discussed in training. You will get a class later on that explains the lease but I believe my roommate said it was voluntary and that when he went, they just gave them info and told them that if and when they were interested they could get in touch and that was it.
I also narrowed down my final decision to these two companies. In the end I chose to go with Stevens based on the fact that for me I liked the full 3 week academy training prior to heading out as opposed to what the Prime recruiter told me they do which is more of a shorter class time and more on the road learning with a trainer. I am not knocking that system but it didn't feel like the best fit for what I am looking for. Money, while important, was not the key factor in my decision. If money is higher on your priority list then Prime does pay it's trainees a substantially better wage during the training phase. In the end it both will train you and employ you so it's really about which one falls in line with your personal needs and goals the best. J
I don't know about Stevens but at prime, You don't have to have it coming in but they leave the studying and getting your permit pretty much to you other than the and you have to put other things that you could be working on off to get that studying done. at some companies this ddoesn't apply like the one I am going to because the State the school is in will not honor my states permit anyhow. Like I said, dunno about Stevens.
