I have some time under my belt,my uncle drives for the transporter. Here in Houston,Tx.(containers) I been around big rigs for around 5yrs. My question is now that I want to go take out my CDL A License. Wich parts of the Handbook must I go Over for the CDL A?I am only moving Containers. I can ask my uncle's but I just wanted to stop on by and also say HELLO! Can't wait to get my cdl, and just head out...! Will these parts also be on the CDL A Test? Section 7 Doubles and Triples Section 8Tank Vehicles Section 10Driving School Buses Section 4Transporting Passengers Well thanks in advance! Im 26yr. old with a clean record, and no drugs..!
To answer your questions. the sections you listed...no you need a basic CDL with sections on Air Brakes and Combination Vehicles. You need to check with each company to find out about Hazmat but prolly not for containers. All the other sections you listed are for hauling those individual items and are individual tests that you will not need. they make it this way so say you wanted to drive a school bus...you would need basic CDL with passenger endorsement and any bus test. this would give you a B license.
Thanks.! They told me that I do need the Hazmat.I just want to make sure, everything that is on here I already know, but I do need to practice this book, seems to me perty thick. I'll be taking the test on Thursday.I hope I pass this......I really want to get on the road.
You can't go any cheaper than the way you're going. Learn it all on your own. I assume you will be able to pass the driving test after you get your learner's permit. How much driving experience do you have? You'll need a little bit to pass the road, backing, and maneuvering portions. If you go this way, you may be handcuffing yourself to this one job, as you won't have a diploma from a certified school to show to a potential trucking company if you get sick of pulling containers and want to try something else. I'd go to a school, but I'd also make sure the tuition is CHEAP or even free (with a gov't grant). If you do decide to get a diploma, don't be paying for the training out of your own pocket like some idiots have done. I am in that boat, and every day of the world I wish I had that 5,000 back. Yeap, it cost me over 5 THOUSAND to learn to drive a truck. Today I'd pay AT MOST 500 bones for training, and only then if I couldn't get a grant.
Whoa now things are a bit different. take the test.ok then they will give you the book (after you pass I think) for hazmat. and a website to go fill out the form for the TSA. fill it out and pay the $94 or whatever it is now. you will get an answer by snail mail with in a month or so on your back ground check. then you take that paper to the motor vehicle dept and take the hazmat test. STUDY that book hard. but you can get your walk around test and driving tests done in the meantime.
Go for tanks while you are at it. Its only a written test and some intermodel containers are actually tanks.
Hi, I took my CDL here 2 years ago. There are 5 batteries to the test done on a computer and the tests are never the same questions. If you have to re-take a test the next questions will be shuffled and you cannot re-take it the same day generally. You have a "General Knowledge" section, Air Brakes, Combinations, Doubles and Triples, Hazmat, Tankers, Passengers, Pre-Trip. A couple in there are mixed together to add up to 5 unless it's changed. It's best to study and study more. I was working night shifts at the time I studied for mine and typed in "free CDL practice tests online." You'll have to do some searching but the one I came up with shuffled the questions for me that I had been studying in the CDL manual. Good luck to ya!!
Well Thanks.... I do have experience.Im not thinking that much about the Driven part.I can easily back up into my garage...hehe.The writing test is what I didnt like that much, but I should pass it,the questions to me seem as if I already know them.We will see what happens. Tomorrow is the big day. I was told about the Hazmat, background check and all that.My record is clean,I just have some no insuarance tickets like 3 to 4 yrs. ago can does affect me?? Wish me luck, and I will be seen you on the roads....
ur ticket isnt a moving violation so it shouldnt affect u. my best advice is to study the book as much as u can .if u r ready 4 it the test will be easy---just be sure u can handle the truck real well b4 u take ur driving test and knowing how to test the air system is REAL important---automatic failure if u cant do it
Kinda sad. 25yr. old gonna turn 26 in Oct. I passes the Writen test's.(sweet) I just need the HAZMAT. But, I was young and stupid I guess, I have a Body Shop, and I was alwasy driving cars from the dealer ships to my shop and got caught with no insuarance and speeding 2 times, around 3-4 yrs. ago.Well I paid the tickects but****** I didnt pay my surecharges,so they suspended my license,I got it back reinstated. So total I have 3 no insuarance violations/// 2 speeding tickets.(3or 4yrs. ago) 2 driving with no license. I passed the test today, but the lady in the front desk totally scared me, she was like your applying for a CDL. Am I completly screwed.....HELP!!!!!Man I feel like a ##*&^&* dum ***. I been around guys that have had DWI's, and are still driving, others that have had some scary crashes. Am I screwed or can I make it.My uncle still says it is all ok, but im kinda getting mixed feelings. If anybody here has some good experience with this please help me....show me the light. speeding was no more than 5 miles over the speed limit. and I did drive(when I went to pick up cars at the dealerships) with out a good license. ahhhhh!!!
