highbeams or lights out?

So what is it, hit the brites or flick the lights off and back on again to let the passing guy know that its clear to come over?

I hit the brites for one guy to come over and he thanks me when another hesitates to come over and the same thing go's for when I flick the lights...

some drivers won't move over till THEY are ready to.

 

At night it's much easier to see when you turn off your lights. The reason the driver didn't come over when you hit your brights is because he wasn't sure that you were just going to low beams because he was ahead of you. He didn't know for sure if it was a signal.

You remember when all new trucks came with the lights on all the time? We showed the company that it was a safety hazard during the day. If a driver looks back and sees the lights on he'll start to move over. If they're on all the time he may not be clear of your tractor. I myself never really depended on the lights 100%. I would thank the driver but I always went for enough space to be safe.

 

I am not a driver yet, but I read that there are legal concerns about flashing or cutting your lights to let a truck over. Supposedly if they get into an accident you might have caused it. Even so, in my 4 wheeler I use my lights to let trucks over so I agree.

 

Definitely lights off/on at night. The brights could blind the other driver temporarily. There are a lot of newer drivers out there that are told by their companies to not do this at all, and there are other drivers out there that just don't for whatever reason. What's going on ahead may also determine whether a driver will come back over or not. If there are other vehicles in the lane, he/she may be delaying to determine whether they will catch up to those vehicles too soon or not.

 

Has anyone ever noticed that UPS never flashes anyone?

I guess there one of the company's that tell there drivers not to flash the lights.

 

Nowadays that's not such a bad idea. It all gets down to liability.

 

UPS doesn't even so much as give you a wave, when you let them pass..

 

If you flash highbeams at me at night, I won't even thank you for the blinding light that you put into my eyes from my mirror. Thanks for nothing, pal....
