I haul 300 degree plus hot tar and have a front unload valve/line we use to pump off. My question is how do you clear this line of tar when not in use like when we unload from the rear. Need to have this line open to the front because we also haul use motor oil and this is always a pump off. Since the oil is cold there no heat to move the asphalt thought the line. Got to keep the front unloader line clear. Any help would greatly helpful.
You don't have a clean out tank mounted? I haven't driven one but I've been around them. They would flush the lines with cleaning solvent until it ran clear and just leave the cleaning solvent in the lines until the next use. I would think you'd have to do something similar. You might get away with using diesel.
No diesel or solvent allowed if the customer finds it you are banned forever. Even the guys hauling paving asphalt can not use it in there dump bed it causes asphalt to break down and fall part.
That sounds like a tough customer. Everyone around here sprays their beds with diesel. I have a friend that runs a tar truck. I'll ask him tomorrow.
never hauled liquid asphalt but on some other tanks iv pulled we tapped a truck air line into the fitting after the tank valve close the tank valve open air line and push the remaining product from the hose and pump with air.
So how do you flush your pump? With just air? And motor oil loaded over asphalt ? Been in the asphalt game for a very long time . Lines and pump get flushed with diesel. Maybe just a gallon on a hot day, maybe 5 in the cold or rainy weather. Roofing factories can be anal about this but the paving plants all do this....... But it's your customer..... Loading motor oil over a load of asphalt...... Sure you don't mean used motor oil, waste oil or #6.
