has anyone els used this new gps? the world nav? i have the garmin nuvi that i use all the time, its set up with truck routing, but lacks on the weights and heights and such, it does a good job of keepin me out of residential neighborhoods, and keeps me off the prks wys as well, and i noticed in cali it does a fine job of keeping me off the many no truck rts.
im thinking of buyin the world nav and usin it for the next 20 days to give it a test run, if people are wondering about the new device i can update eachday or so to keep people posted as to how it works, or lack there of.
i just wanna see what the hype is about the new things on the internet and promotions, 599.99, better be some what decent, and better then the one im usin now.
well, ill decide over the next week if im going to take it for a test driver or not. keep an eye out for updates on here.

I would keep your Garmin and your money. I had a student bring one of those into my truck and it sucked. I have an older Garmin and it was a lot better than the world nav. Maybe he didn't know how to work it but it kept trying to send us on non-truck routes. If you can get a test run maybe but I sure wouldn't spend $600 on it.

As someone who is looking to go back OTR and possibly buy one, I was wondering if you could get truck info on those. I'm old school, so I would mostly be using my Rand McNally and my superb, extensive navigational skills. :biggrin_25525: But I recently went on a trip with a friend who had a Nuvi and I can see where it could come in handy, especially around a city.

So how do you get one with truck info? Is it special order? Do you hook it up to your computer and download the info into it? Huh huh huh?????

well, i got my garmin at Best Buy, sticker price was over $500, but, i did a lil web surfing, and found the exact same one at walmart for $280, printed the ad up, took it to Best Buy, and got it there for $280. used for the past year, and only 2 times did it bring to a bridge that i could not fit under, 12 6, train bridge, the problem was the address was on one side, and the loading dock was on the other side of the bridge,
i trust the garmin 100% everywhere i go, and tell people to buy that one ALL the time, but nobody can seem to ever find it, so i got lookin again, and sure enough i can not find the one with the truck option on it anywhere made by garmin, glad i got mine when i did,
so u went to pilot today and picked up the World Nav, its HUGE!!, 7 in screen, it looks like a big screen tv sitting up there on my dash with my nuvi, which now looks silly its so tiny haha.
im impressed with it thus far, only used it for about 6 hours today, but so far the test is going ok,
I have to get used to a few things, things that my garmin does that this one does not do, but its minor lil things,
grand price was $650 at pilot,
for the mean time i would still say to get the garmin, any of them really, weather it has the truck setting or not, they are small, compact, and a bit more easy to use, i wouldnt not tell an older driver to go and pick up the W/N, not yet anyway, its a bit more then you need specially if you have never used a GPS b4,
the thing that gets me the most about the W/N is that it takes much much longer to re-route if you go off route. but reading the book, it says that it would do that cause the its seaching a lot more roads then any other gps out there.
as far as POI's go, i like it so far
the really awesome thing about the W/N is that you can go in there and get a list of cerified scales, and ever ts i passed today had a CAT that the W/N knew about, AALLSSOO, this is pretty cool, you can ever look on your route and it will tell you where State Weight Stations are, i just this thats pretty cool. it would be cooler if it told you weather or not it was open haha.
the batt does not seem to hold up really strong, i had it plugged in all day and im sitting in a room playin with it, and it showing red bars letting me no i need to charge it, but that could be that u plugged it in and messed around with it all day and never gave it a chance to fully charge.
i like it so far, still getting used to the big screen tho, i guess i could have saved a few bucks and got the smaller one, but i figured what the hell, why not, im heading west, i cant wait to get to cali and see how it does down there, thats going to be the real test for it,

it allows u to set ur truck type, height, weight, length, hazmat - all the different classes, 0-5, voice prompt, can set it for male or female, i prefer to the lady haha. it has just about every dan language in the world, but english works just fine for me.
well, so far thats day 1, many more days and miles to give it a real test.
i think im going to keep up on my review and then send it to W/N and let them no how i thought it was.
, as said above, if your lookin to go out and get a gps, i would still stick with the garmin, truck setting or not, this World Nav is way to new and still has tons of bugs in it im sure, i just havnt found them yet,
    well, see ya'll tm.

    ok, so day 2,
went OK with the W/N today except for 2 times wanted me to go ways i could not go, or didnt want to go.
it wanted me to run an express lane that no trucks can be on, so i was turned off a bit, but, my garmin did the same thing as well, ( im runnin both together )
its takin time for me to get used to it re-routing, im just used to it being done within a few sec, not over a min.
still getting used to the mega screen as well. its kinda growing on me tho.
still a large price to pay, and i really would not tell vet driver who has always used maps to get this, i would tell em to go out and get the garmin, much easier to use, the garmin is a bit more advanced and maybe more then one can handle.

I've been beating my brain out trying to make up my mind which gps to buy it's between the Garman and the worldnav. My question is, which Garman are you talking about. Im looking at the 465T is that the one your running with? Also the worldnav 710060 or the (as the chick at piolt on the phone) said the one they had was a 710061 is there any truth in that? I searched for a 710061 and couldn't find one. Pluss there are a couple of the Worldnav systems one for 600.00 and one for 800.00 wich one? Im old and blind so I need a big screen and just to let you know I really do appreciate your efforts in all this. Keep up the great work!

Have you tried the video in the Worldnav? That is another buying point for me not a big one but just the same I want to know all I can about this new fandangoed thing before I buy. I'm local now sold my t.v. but I do have to spend the night out once in a while and It would be nice to pop in a video. I'm thinken I'd be better off with a lap top for that.

eh...i forget what its called, im not in my truck at the moment, ill check it out later and let u no, its got the 7in screen, for an older person who has preoblems seeing smaller things the world nav is great, having the big screen makes it much easier to see the screen,
im still suggestin the garmin nuvi 205 WITH truck setting on it, however, they dont make it with the truck setting on it anymore, word is that in june sometime Garmin will have a new gps that is set up for trucks, heard the price tag is ball parked around 600, give or take.
the one the lady was prob. speakin of is the one with the 7in screen.
ill be honest, i am impressed with the W/N so far, however, today i was running across 90 through s.d to montana, and i no that i can take 85 to 212 back to 90, cuts out a few miles, and my garmin sent me that way, but the WN wanted me to stay on 90, and when i turned off 90, it took almost 45 mins for the w.n to reroute me on 212, way to long for my taste, however, i have the world nav set on quickist, so what i think it was trying to do was keep me in the interstate, i am having mixed feeling about the w.n for right now, ill get a better understanding of it when i get to either cali, or some bigger cities.
pilot says they have problems keepin them in stock, im not to sure about that.
the best thing about the w.n is that you can look for truck stops, rest areas, weigh stations, cat scales, truck washes, hotels/motels, ALONG the route your on, it does not search the way Garmin does, which garmin will search in directions all around you, even behind you, not the world nav, it keeps u on your route.
pros and cons --- def has more pros then cons at the moment.

oh also, about the video, no i have not tried it, and honestly dont plan on it either, i dont like the thought of hookin up a dvd player to roll a dvd while im headin down the highway, i dont need a cop cruzin by, glance in my windo, and see a movie on the dash, just a bad idea, and prob a big fine to along with it as well.
however, you can buy a camera to hook up on it, not sure where one would put the camera, maybe on the passanger side step? im just note sure, maybe for a car/p.u truck/rv towin something.
having the av was not a seeling point for me, just something that came with it.

Thanks for the info soon2be I'm still undecided at this point. I hesitate big time to by anything new on the market like the worldnav. I know a guy that got a Garman 465T and he is impressed at the moment, I'm liken the big screen thing to, but if it takes that long to reroute I have a definate problem with that. As far as the video goes. I would never, ever even consider popping in a video while I'm Rollin. I ment watching a dvd while I'm in my slightly a little bigger than a coffin sleeper. As far as all that goes if it's a camra hook up I could realy care less about that to. Thanks

the world nav is pretty good, i am impressed with it, and i am just like you, i never buy the new electronics, i always wait till they get most of the bugs out. but i was never able to find anyone that uses this, so i figured id take it for a test run for 30 days then return it, then after i paid for it they told me that i can only exchange it, so now im the owner of it...:biggrin_2556: however, talking to the workers at pilot they all told me that for a few weeks they stopped production on the w.n cause they had way to many bugs in them, and the one i got is supposed to be cleand up some more,
so far the the only serious problem i have is the amount of time for re-routing,
most gps units are capable of re-routing with in just a few seconds, at least by the time you hit the next street or exit, with the world nav its checking scanning searching over 3,000,000 roads making sure that all the rds your going to take are able to handle a 53' 80,000lb truck. and by the time it re-routes 2-3 miles have gone by, if they can make this thing re-route as fast as the other gps units.
the features are great to as i mentiond above, i think the best feature on it is that it shows you where all certified/cat scales are, and wev all been places where nobody knows where the nearist Cat is.

im back, sorry, i left my power cord back in Mt, just got a new power supply and back on.
i have used this thing non-stop the past week.,
listen everyone, **stay away from this thing**
i have used this thing non-stop and it sucks.
if you dont mind paying fines for being places we dont belong in a truck, then by all means a small price tag of 650 and u can pick one up at pilot.
i have it set the " truck quickist " same as my Garmin, and it still routes you about 10-100 miles longer, yeah i no, we get paid by the mile here, but were also working against the clock as well.
the ONLY 2 good thing about it,
    1. looks for POI's along your route, not behind you, but ahead of you.
    2. It looks for all certified/cat scales.
thats it folks, the only 2 good things right there.
your better off with the garmin pc miler, tom tom and an old map book.
oh, have i mentioned above anywhere that once you buy this hunk of junk you can only exchange it or get store credit..?:biggrin_2553::biggrin_2554::biggrin_2557:
ill be contacting some at W/N and having a few words with someone about this thing.
im short on time here, just wanted to get back on here,
again, stay away from this thing, go get a cheap gps, ull be better off and ull save a ton of money as well.
ill get back on and get further into my new found hate for this thing.
