Had a trucking company slam my DAC with quit under dispatch while I was still riding with a trainer. Just how bad is that and what can I do to overcome it?

A lot of companies look down on quitting under a load, but it's not the end of the world. Depends on the circumstances that led to you quitting, Explaining the reason you quit may help with the next prospective employer, but it's not a habit I would want to get into. To overcome it, next time just stick it out and show the next employer that you are dependable and willing to get the job done. I have quit a couple of companies, but never under a load. Like I said before, it doesn't look good on an application, but it can be easily overcome with some explaining the reasoning behind it.

UMMM you didn't quite under a load. Your trainer was under the load, it was assigned to your trainer, and your trainer was responsible for that load.

I'd fight that BS tooth and nail.

    Ya, need more details.

Did you refuse to drive? Or maybe get out of the truck and walk away?

Considering the unscrupulous mislabeling of "training" some companies call it, which is really team driving, they probably consider his quitting a team operation as a quit under load... which as mentioned, needs to be explained to any prospective company.

That, however, doesn't exonerate you from quitting your training... hence you will need a good reason for doing it, otherwise it shows that you aren't willing to finish what you start, which makes your word worthless, which no company wants to explain to a customer why their load is late or undeliverable, because you wouldn't finish the load before quitting. Do fight it though if you have a good reason.

Yes it's bad.... unless you have one heck of a reason.

If you bailed while under a load, even on a team operation, that's why you have that blackmark on DAC. Being a trainee doesn't make you exempt.

Well the situation was this, I was training in the trainers truck which was a newer Freightliner, no problems was doing well. They assigned me a truck on Wednesday but would not be by myself until the following Monday. The truck they assigned me was not just a piece of crap but was literally unsafe to drive, especially for a new driver. Now I know the new guy get's the crap and I was well prepared for that, however I did not feel safe in that truck for several reasons, the cab had been gutted and had a makeshift seat there was rust not just on the outside but on the inside of the cab. It was so filthy I don't think it could be cleaned, however the main reason is it was unsafe. I went in on Thursday morning and told the dispatcher that I was going to quit, ( I was still with my trainer). Now in my stupidity, being green as grass and not knowing how the game is played I told him that since I was in training still I saw no purpose in them wasting their money on me training when I wasn't going to drive for them. I honestly (and quite stupid on my part) thought I was doing something good for them. Evidently they didn't see it that way as my DAC now has a quit under dispatch on it. So there it is guys, the sad truth. Just wondering if another company would even touch me now.

I'd get a lawyer and get paid on this deal. That's a golden goose you've been handed.
