how do you do interviews over the road?

    If your out for weeks at a time and home only a couple of days how would you get a day off to show up for a interview to another company like a local position?

    You'll have to see if you can schedule an interview while home.Or just show up at that local position and hope they can interview right then.

    :mlaugh:You tell your dispatcher you need to be home on Monday the 23rd so you can interview for another job. Of course, he will spit his coffee all over his screen, laughing hysterically, and tell you "I'll get right on it ".

    That is one of the problems that people who are making minimum wages have. They can't take a day off to look for better jobs because the can't afford too. People with old cars can't afford to get them fixed so they don't pass inspection, then they get ticketed for driving with expired plates and now they can't afford insurance. This nation has made it hard to get ahead by passing laws that had good intentions. Wait, that isn't really what you want to know is it.

    Yes it is. There is a risk / reward with everything in life. You simply tell your DM to route you to the house for two days off in the middle of the week for family business. If they push the issue, then you can either tell them or not.

    What I would recommend as the safest approach is to arrange with your new employer a telephone interview. Or skpe? What ever those youngsters do nowadays. Your new boss will appreciate the fact that you are working hard for your old boss and that you will work as hard for him. If your new boss wants the face to face, offer to take him to breakfast on a weekend when you will be home. That shows problem solving skills.

    Show up in your current company truck. If it's another driving job you're interviewing for chances are they'll have plenty of truck parking!

    We often do phone interviews to save money. Is that possible in this case? Letting a potential company know you're on the road doesn't sound too unreasonable, seeing as how that what truck drivers do. IDK just a thought.
