Since all logs are electronic, do you need to keep your own personal 2nd log to show to a prospective employer? Does a mega provide you with statements of actual miles driven as you go? Searching here seems to indicate it's up to your former employer to provide documentation. What if they suck at paperwork or worse, go bankrupt?

If your company has the option of faxing/emailing your logs send them to yourself as you go weekly for your records.

Also do this if you plan on claiming per diem or itemizing your taxes as it gives you a tally of days you've spent on the road and proof if the IRS comes after you.

What exactly does the application say?does it wanna know how many miles you've driven otr?If so they are not overly concerned so just pick a number at random and put that down.

I have not yet started school (June as of now). Trying to figure everything out that I can ahead of time. My wife is an airline pilot and for her entire career until she got to a major, she documented a paper log book with her flight hours. Every employer she interviewed with demanded to see every single book, even if there were 10 of them, in an effort for them to verify her flight hours.

Before I get started on my own career driving, trying to see how it works when a 2nd and future prospective employer wants 'verified' miles and who does the verifying.

While with Swift we could log into a kiosk at any terminal and get a screen that showed total dispatched miles (loaded and dispatched deadhead). Take a picture of the screen and send it as an attachment to your potential new employer.

I did that in addition to screens showing service failures (zero), number of loads delivered, and average miles per week. It was very helpful getting my current job.

When filling out apps I always just averaged it out.
    10,000 miles/month.
No one has ever questioned it.

I have spreadsheets now (last couple years) I doubt they care enough. So I would/will do the same next time I'm asked or fill out another app.

Same here, I listed 10-11k a month average. Or take your annual pay, -10% for accessory and bonus, divide the remainder by your mileage rate.

Yup, if your with a mega cause of their high turnover rate and amount of calls to verify Megas require your new company to pay to verify what you done for the mega company. So the new company won't really verify or just ask for your w2's to verify you worked there. They usually take your word for mileage but keep pay sheets just in case.

Usually they look for time. No carrier, well most carriers, can't afford to let you sit too much so they have an idea. Use your pay stubs if they want more. No stubs? Get your bank statements, show them the deposits, divide by cpm plus taxes, voila.
