Yep! March 13 came and went marking my 1st year in driving. So I thought I'd just drop in and say, I made it No scratches, no accidents, nothin. I guestimate that I have somewhere like 100K miles in my 1st year. Now, it could be a bit more, or... a bit less. I'm not positive on the exact number. It would be cool if I could get that info. Future employers ask ya how many miles you have under your belt. There were some hard times. Some easy times. Some pissed off times and some smiling times. But I'm still here. I'm not sure how much longer I'll stay with the current Company. Maybe another summer. Things did slow down quite a bit this winter. I'm also happy to report that I'm #10 out of all the drivers with my company (50ish) in regards to MPG, Over Rev's on the Engine, sudden starts/stops, over MPH, etc etc - basically, the computers monitor the trucks and keeps logs and studies how ya drive. In truth, I try to think of the truck as my own and drive it as if it were. I cannot begin to tell ya the crap I've seen in my 1st year... *sigh* The way some "Drivers" drive and the way some "4 wheelers" drive... *smh* unreal... but, most of you guys already know all of this. Still feel like quitting every time I go to NYC and back hahaha. For you new guys, just stick it out. And don't be a jackazz. Drive like you respect the other drives/motorists (whether they respect YOU or NOT) and get it all home safe. cheers (yeah, abrupt stop, wife is hollerin dinner) - take care
Congrats O.P.!! Now for the bad news;the "years" will go by quicker as you go along and you will KNOW your 'over the hill' when one day you will ask yourself this question: How can some days go by so slow...And the years so fast.!? OK.O.K.I know,I know..But I've been a "bummer" all day-why STOP now??
Good job ! Keep it up. Do you think you will make this a career? Is it better / worse than you thought ? Would you recommend this vocation to others ?
Thanks for driving moderately and not like an ice road trucker with an attitude. The good MPG is probably your doing though sometimes it is the truck.
