In my neverending quest to figure out when I am going to make the jump from healthcare to driving, I'm curious to find out how much you guys tend to spend cash wise each day on the road.

I'm figuring that I'll OTR for at least 2-3 years to begin with. Won't need much home time, want to pound miles and get experience.
I know, working in a hospital and being a guy that doesn't bring his lunch, I spend about $20 a day eating there on my work days. Gets expensive for sure. I'm sure you guys have many more expenses out there- showers, tolls, truck washes etc.......would love to hear what it really costs..........

I spend $40-60 a week. But I avoid truck stop hot box food and fast food. Find a Walmart or other grocery store, the truck stop food will kill you slowly. If you have a fridge, inverter and microwave your options for food improve. You can get free showers by signing up for rewards cards. 50 gallons= free shower.

It depends , 98% of the time I hit the Wal Mart and stock pile my own food.
I have a small cookstove that can handle pretty much anything.
Today since i have the day off I splurged and went into the T/A for breakfast.
It was almost $15.00 with tip.
I have noticed its getting more and more expensive to eat inside these places.
A cup of coffee is $2.39 for example.

Showers are free with fuel , tolls are paid by the companies , truck washes are company paid

Food is the #1 biggest expense out here on the road.

It can add up, but that has put things in perspective for me. Now I compare the cost of equipping myself with somewhat expensive tools to having bought too much junk food, and consider the value of pulling those out of my ### instead. I spend some time every day on the road using tools, and those last a lot longer or keep me from sitting around wishing for a snack. I'm going to try just drinking water while awake, and eat something relatively cheap and healthy before sleep (because I'd rather act like I'm 60% water for that 60% of the time I'm awake, or something like that).

depends on if you eat in the truck. the taco bells and subways, or the restaurants.

I buy food in a can that be eaten straight out. And cereal. but sometimes i'll want a sandwich or burger. i stock up on drinks but i'll also buy 44 oz pepsi. the $1.75 for the drink isn't going to make me any richer or poorer at the end of the year.

$20 a day eating at a hospital?. When I was an EMT hospital cafeterias were always the budget option.

My biggest expense on the road is probably food, 20 bucks a day give or take. I've been going to wal mart lately stocking up on food which is a lot cheaper.

Had a weeks worth of tuna and only spent maybe 10 bucks. Also the rotisserie chicken will last you a couple days as well 6 bucks plus tax. So $20 vs $100 a week is a big difference. Plus tuna and roasted chicken is a hell of lot healthier then truck stop

No doubt food is your biggest expense. My company furnishes mini fridges. Take a microwave with you and you can keep spending down like I did this week. $23! No sit down meals with tips this week. I normally tip the shower attendant two bucks. My wife fixes up 7-8 tupperware sandwich containers of food. Take sandwich stuff too and snacks like Lance Crackers, slim jims, pringles chips and then you don't have to spend $30-40/ day on 3 square meals. Its a great life! Enjoy the ride!

I make lot lizzards pay for my meals.

For guys saving money by eating out of boxes and cans all your really doing is eating preservatives and sodium!
