how much money will a rookie make when starting OTR

    i will be 21 next april. if i work for a company like werner, swift, or schneider, how much money can i expect to make during my first year? like, how many CPM and how many miles would i average a week?

    does knight transportation hire rookies also?

    that is going to vary greatly depending on the economy. If the economy is ####, the loads aren't going to be there to deliver = less miles. bad weather, traffic jams, etc. can all factor into how many miles you get a week

    there are a few companies out there that hire 21.. they are becoming fewer with insurance companies breathing down people's necks though. I know when i was 21 FFE and werner and schneider i think were taking 21 year olds, but that may have changed

    Most large companies are self insured. What you need to understand is, it's not how much you make, it's how you manage your money. You need to be responsible and have a game plan. Buying a 12 pack of store brand soda VS buying name brand 1 can at a time at a truck stop cost you money. Same with cigs, if you smoke. Carton VS 1 pack at a time. A small box of laundry detergent from a vending machine in the laundry VS detergent in a baggy from home. Am I making sense? When ever I see some clown paying for chips/soda at a truck stop with a crumpled up fistfull of paper money from his front pocket, I cringe. I know that fool hasn't a clue on how to manage money. I would figure on grossing about $20 grand your first year.

    The companies say about $30,000 to $40,000 the first year...so less than that.

    2000 miles a week x .30/mile (pending on your pay and blah blah) = 31,200/year

    These are averages, so I really don't know how many miles you will get or how much per mile, but running 2000 miles a week average through the year doesn't seem outlandish to me.
