Thinking about returning to the road. Fifty six years old. Had my CDL and gave it up a few years ago to move back to Illinois. Did not want to give it up, but Illinois doesn't allow you to keep it without taking a new road test. Thanks govenor. Have not driven in about six years with a little over a year experience. Looking for pit falls related to age and company hiring policies, both written and those that are never "in print" Clean DMV record and all the way around. Looking for others in the same boat. Like to hear from you.

Not really in the same boat but we have a driver who just left our company and was 82 years old. He could no longer pass a physical . If your healthy there's really.nothing.barring you.

I really do not believe age is an issue. Physical health, DMV history, backround, and work history are the keys.

They don't care. As long as you can pass physical, read a map, pass a road test, deliver freight.

Thanks guys for the feed back. Went thru prostate cancer four years ago. Clean bill of health since. Kids are finally moved out and don't have to worry about teen-agers at home alone any more. hegemeister, moved to Illinois two years ago from North Augusta.

I hadn't driven in 37 years when I came back last fall at the shiny young age of 61. Go for it as it is worth it. Due to the insurance company regs you will probably have to do school and then mentor/trainer driver time before you solo. I recommend Swift, especially if you're a veteran due to the $1000 school discount. They have been good to me and delivered on everything they promised.

Why would you do such a thing!!! I was born and raised on Long Island and moved down here 6 years ago to get out of the cold. Hated being stuck in the house during the winter. After football season, I would start to climb the walls.
