Talk about any hairy situations you have been through out on the road. Are the truck stops pretty safe? Have you been in an area like south central ? Compton? Liberty city? Let me know if you have ever had to deal with getting a gun pulled on you or any other type of crime against you.

Wow, way too much to talk about on this subject. The only thing I ever really had stolen from me, or crime, was I gave a hitchhiker a ride from ElPaso to Bell Ca one time. He ate everything in my cubbards while I was at the receivers dock, and didn't even have the courtesy to tell me. That's when I kicked his ### out of my truck. Won't ever do it again, period.

Some trucks stops are really bad. The worst one I can think of that comes to mind would have been the old Circle K in Phoenix Az, but I don't know what it is today.

The biggest danger is on the road . Drivers die every die in unexpected situations when someone else causes a wreck . You never know . Several years back a couple of truckers died when a bridge collapsed on I-95 in CT .
Last year in KY a tanker lost control and rolled across a median wall . The tanker driver walked away . A UPS driver coming the other way died .

All of the possible "preventatives" in the world will not keep your number from coming up.
If its your turn, its your turn and nothing will prevent it.

I was running the back roads in no mans land west Texas about 3 years ago, i was about 100 miles if not more from any town. I stop in a big dirt pull out about 10:00p.m. to sleep. I sat up in the front seat for about an hour before i went to bed and did some reading. i did not see one car or truck go by in the hour i was up. I went to sleep about 11:00p.m. and closed the front curtains. I had this creepy feeling before i layed down being out there in no mans land. About 2 hours after i went to bed someone knocked on my door, i was scared, that late at night out there, i knew this was not good. i grab both of my 8 inch knifes like rambo(lol) and open the window about 2 inches to hear the guy. i pulled back the curtain just enough to see two young men outside, one was walking around kinda nervous and the other asked me if i had a cell phone, i told him the battery was dead, then he asked me if he could plug his cell phone in my truck, i told him no and goodnight. I knew all they were wanting me to do is open the door so they could get to me, at least this what i took it as. i closed the window and curtain and sat on the floor board waiting for them to mabey shoot a gun in the truck, after about 2 mins of being pretty nervous they spun the tires and took off. I won't lie, i was real scared. I thought i was going to be the next trucker found dead. From that point on, i do not park out in the middle of nowhere anymore unless there are someother trucks around. Peice of mind with other drivers around.:biggrin_2555:

Worst I've had was a PTL driver who followed me around a warehouse telling me how pretty I am and how he just wanted to talk. lucky for me, they finished unloading me first, so I drove away and have never seen him since. (Though I do get a little nervous when A PTL truck pulls in next to me at a truck stop until I see who the driver is!)

A little common sense goes a long way. Avoid sleeping in big cities, avoid lonely areas. As was posted earlier, safety in numbers. I've heard the horror stories some drivers like to tell, but I've never been attacked or threatened in any way.

    Yet.
