How to report a company for unfair trade practices

Company added extra fees to my statement.
Such as a truck recovery I helped recover a truck from Florida for them. In turn, they charged me 2,000$.

Now I'm trying to get home for my break after driving for 3 months and no response from dispatcher. They want me with the little money I have to fly home on my own dime when I've made them over 60k the past few months while I'm here holding a penny bag with just over 1k in my possession because of all the fees they threw on.

My question is, if they don't want to pay for my flight home and leave me stranded. How can I report them for unjustly charging me for something I didn't do? And how would it effect me if I were to deadhead home with the truck were they to abandon me in Chicago?

 

For context.
They were flying me to Chicago when they hired me , instead I picked up a truck from a truckstop someone abandoned in florida.

I recovered the truck for them which broke down in south Illinois. They had to pick me up and recover the truck later as it broke down from overheating which the dealer couldn't fix immediately. Truck was left there and I jumped in another the next day at their terminal.

Are you a driver?

Are you leased to a company?

or are you a contractor?

This really matters in how the answers are going to be.

BUT I am going to assume you are an owner leased to a company so get this - WHAT DOES YOUR CONTRACT SAY?

If you are a contractor - WHAT DOES YOUR CONTRACT SAY?

But if you are a driver, then your complaints have to be directed to the Labor board of the state.


BUT let's say you are a 1099 driver, quit.

There are very few companies that do 1099 contracting right and the POS companies who are screwing drivers seem to be feeding off of those who should know better of what a 1099 contracted driver is all about.

SO QUIT.

Report them to the IRS and the state labor board, and let it go. You may get some money but outside of that, don't ever work for one again.

 

They're are too many gaps in this story. You alleged that you recovered a truck for them in Florida, to return to Chicago ( shocker).Now they are charging you $2000. For what...?!! Next you need to clarify if you are a company driver on a w- 2 or a1099. Or are you hooked up in a lease purchuse of which your contract should clearly state all settlement deductions that you are subject to. You claim to have made them $60,000 in 3 months. Did they pay you for your services? If they did... then the $60K is irrelevant to the conversation. Why would they pay for your commute home? Are you quitting? And the idea of taking their property without authorization is not going to work out well for you....but you already know that. Fill in the blanks Driver!

 

So, what's the name of the company.

 

I'm renting the truck from them and paying for all expenses under an llc. Essentially, they had a free driver for their truck while I took care of all expenses. They tacked on fees on top of everything.
The 2k was 950$ for truck recovery
400$ truck cleaning
+ fuel I put in the truck that wasn't reimbursed.

 

I am 1099 running under llc the company had us get to drive for them.

Every week they'd deduct 1600 for truck rent + 20% off the top. Fuel, tolls, trailer insurance, maintenance, and truck insurance were also taken out on top of whatever fees they decided to tack on.

Late by 20 minutes on tracking? Late fee.
Not in constant contact with the broker? Late fee.

Why would they pay for my commute home? I've been working here for 11 weeks. I'm taking a break to go home and see my family. I never quit, nor worded it so. Told my dispatcher I wanted to go home. No message. Can't call dispatch, goes straight to voice-mail. When I call the company they can't help me. I have to go to the office and speak to someone in order to get a plane ticket home. Even then it's not guaranteed. These people really taking advantage of everyone that just wants to make money.
I made less in 11 weeks than a wendys cashier. Which is disappointing.

Between percentage and truck rent they were taking in 4-5k a week (+fees)from my gross.

Gross less than 8k a week? Negative statement.

 

Why would anyone sign up for such a deal? Have you not heard of crooked Trucking Companies ripping off Drivers? Nothing new. Document your case and take them to small claims court. You can report them to every Agency in the Government. I seriously doubt it will result in any action. About the only thing you can count on is owing taxes. Best keep records of everything spent to avoid a big bill. You should have quit after a week or 2. Lesson Learned.

 

It’s not unfair trade practices when you agreed and signed up for it. How did you think it’s possible to make any money at all when you’d be paying them $83k per year just for the privilege of driving their truck down the road? Not to mention the other operating expenses?
