1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I finally found a job!!!

For those that have been seeing my desperate cries for help and guidance over the last couple months; it has all come to an end.

For those out of the loop: I have been out of a truck for 3.5 years with 4 years of clean OTR driving before that with 2 major companies. I was turned down over and over for verious reasions. Mainly out of a truck too long and coming in a strong second, my location not being easily STAA truck friendly.

I took some advice I read here and put in at a couple local small companies (All of the companies are small with none being OTR). I placed my app in person on the afternoon of 6/30. Later that day I made an appointment to get my DOT physical done on 7/6.

On 7/5 I was out of the cell coverage area most of the day and when I got back I found I had missed a call from this company. They wanted to 'talk' with me. I worked graveyard that night and set my alarm for 10am (I got off at 5). When I got up they had already called again at 830am. I called and they told me to come in the next day right after my physical.

When I came in the HR director sat down and asked me a few questions about my driving history then called in the dispatcher (he is ranked third next to the VP and Pres of the company). I spoke with them for about 30 minutes and they sent me for a UA on the spot and said if I could pass the UA I had a job.

I just got the call this afternoon that my UA came back clean (I knew it would) so now I'm waiting out my 2 week notice at my security job.

As of now I'm a security guard making $10 per hr with no chance of overtime or promotion.

In 2 weeks I'll be running a day cab chip truck making $13per hr with all the drivers getting 50/60 hours a week with overtime after 40. I will be home every night. I'm guessing this company might have 20/25 trucks

Not the best pay but my $10 I make now is considered good by a lot of people where I live. The new job will allow me to live quite well where I'm at. This is not a revolving door company either. Its hard to get in. They have one driver that's been their since 1969.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post but I'm happy and wanted to share. Admin please move if needed.

Congrats, this goes to show that persistence and hard work does pay off you just have to keep at it for a while sometimes.

Yep. To put it in prospective for my area I can get into a nice 2bdr-2bath apartment with my own attached private 2 car garage for less then that a month.

Congratulations on the new job. It is really hard to break back in once you have been away for more than a couple of years.

Congratulations BigJDub! With persistance and hard work you beat the odds. I'm old-school so I don't think you can beat those sit-down face-to-face interviews. A confident person can walk away with a job more times than not.

That's great,I can imagine it's pretty tough to find a good job down there in C-City.
I'd love to live in that area myself and visit there pretty often, camped many time out at Jed Smith Park and ride the Harley down the PCH101 through the Redwoods a couple times a year.
Congrats on making it work with a local gig.

i have been lucky enough to live around here most of my life but it can be real hard to scratch out a living here. Its a tourist town and little else unless you want to work at the prison and thats not my thing. Jed Smith is a great park. I live about 5 miles from there.

Thanks everyone for all the good words. I liked the comment about the sit down interview. I can feel people out usualy pretty well but that day i was in rare form. Not to brag but I was on top of it and owned that interview. I never lost control of what was going on. Never had that ocword momment where i was at a loss for words. I walked out of there almost in shock. It wasnt till i was halfway across town to my UA that it hit me what was happening. I have been on top of the world ever since.
