im going on a non-trucking job interview tomorrow, actually its through temp service. not entirely thrilled with working for a temp service but there really are no options around here to get into a job anymore. i happened to see this job ad on craigslist. i was looking more at non-trucking jobs but i have to admit this is interesting. anyone know anything about H.O. Wolding? the problem with the temp service job $14x40x52= less then $30K. things are going to be extremely tight on that money if not impossible. these are such difficult options to weight. i was wondering if you guys think i should consider this. ad claims home every weekend and home every other day. which i presume would mean no unpaid resets (something i dont like), and home enough to at least see my family on a regular basis. the temp service job $15 after 90 days which only works out to 31K per year. the ad claims hourly pay of $20 per hour working out to be over $50k starting pay https://buffalo.craigslist.org/trp/6036657187.html
Patrick C at a nother locale, is an Expert on H.O. Wolding... I'd really look into them. Is this paid via W2 with benefits, or 1099? So much grey area....
W2 means your an employee. They withhold taxes. 1099 means your an independent contractor. You get your full pay and you take care of everything else.
im guessing 1099 is not something you would want to deal with. so an owner op would be an example of a 1099. i wonder how they are paid
Pretty much. Look at a previous w2. Where it shows you all the taxes you paid over the year, instead of it being paid directly from your pay, and you reciving the net pay (gross minus deductions) you would just recive the full gross and you claim that at tax time and pay the wonderful awesome government (sarcasm alert) there cut. Also the benifits laws change. W2 if your full time they legally have to offer you something. 1099, your on your own.
my previous roommate had them come to his trucking school. i still facebook my old werner roommate. i asked him if they pay O.T. on $20/hour. he said they dont and its $20 per hour regardless of how many hours you work. i think maybe that's the only reason they could avoid. sometimes some of the shady practices in trucking make me scratch my head.
It's not shady practices, it's federal regulation that wllows that to happen. Trucking is not the only one either.
i would want regular taxes deducted from the paycheck so im not holding the bag so to speak at the end of the year.
