I need help, cleaning up my stainless parts and chrome due to road tar!!!!!

dang it well i washed the truck the other day and after i was done with it i was pretty angry to find that there were small TAR /ASPHALT spots or stains like small specks everywere on my stainless grill and visor and on my chrome front bumper and chrome exhaust stacks WTFFFFFF!!!!argh... they will only come off with your fingernail.

so Heres what i tried i first used my chrome/metal polish and it did nothing, then i tried some gas on a rag nothing,diesel on a rag nothing, acetone still nothing it doesnt want to break it down to wipe off.

i didnt want to use paint thinner or mineral spirits as i am scared that it will whiten the polished finish on the stainless and stain it. im unsure what the paint thinner or spirirts will do to the chrome.

i jusyt dont want it to stain or scratch the finish.

Is there anything the truck gods can guide me torwards so that i can clean this crap off truck without damaging my shiny chrome parts or am i just screwed.....

Try WD40. it takes off alot of things..

Goo Gone works wonders on removing EVERYTHING! Most grocery stores sell it in the cleaning aisle as well as Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

You can also try Mr. Clean Magic Erasers - they are AWESOME, too!

 

Those magic erasers would damage the paint on my truck.

What worked for me to get the adhesive off my doors was Orange Peel

Opps, I guess I should have clarified in my original post that those could be used on the stainless/chrome areas, not the painted area. Sorry about that. Having a blonde moment.... well, the "moment" seems to be lasting all day today!

 

I used to work for a towing company that had the city contract. All of our trucks had custom air brushed murals on them. I had to haul a bunch of cars out of an area that they were doing chipseal. I had tar all over the beautiful murals and everywhere else. I used a couple cans of WD-40 and a lot of elbow grease. It separates the tar from the paint/SS/Chrome without affecting any clear coat or finish. A quick trip to the truckwash after that will remove any of the WD-40 left over.

And not everyone has a few gallons of that sitting around , heck BRAKECLEAN will do it as well
