I s it just me or is it frustrating waiting for a trainer?

Is it just me or is it frustrating waiting for a trainer so you can start driving.It's been almost a week, when spoke to the guy in Nashville he said one should on his way up here.Then on Fri I get a call from my hometerminal asking if I was set up yet, I said I don't know they where sapossed to route on up here. Then he asked if I was a smoker which I am, thankfully because everyone knows there is more smoking trainers then non.

I am going with Western Express out of the Nazareth terminal, N.E. regional got to love NYC.

 

It took me 10 days to get a mentor, out of Fontana. 7-10 is well within the norm.

 

Didn't frustrate me at all! but then again I didn't have to go out with a trainer!

 

More than a day or two Is an issue ! It is called planing ! I am an trainer with Epes . Give them acall .

 

How long does it usually take to get into an orientation class with Epes? I completed an application online on 10/08/11 and haven't heard anything from them. Is it to early to hear from them? I am due to graduate with my class A license on Nov. 10, 2011.

 

I am calling in the am.There were some drivers last week that were in the hotel for 2 weeks.I am lucky enough to live within 15-20 miles of terminal.

And dweedle we have a drop yard in allentown and they are talking about starting an northeast fleet , sounds like thats your stomping ground ! You are in the twilight zone, so to speak. The demand for new drivers is growing, and the number of senior drivers that will train or mentor those new drivers is dwindling. I, for one, trained new drivers in the 90's, but am out of that game and have no desire to go back to it. There is a "burn out" factor. Some reach it sooner than others. I guess it took me just under 6 years and then I had enough. I got out before I was forced to quit doing it. I was starting to get impatient and the little things were starting to grate on me. That is not fair to a new driver, so I bowed out. I did not want to become one of those trainers that are doing it just to have another driver (log book) and rack up more miles. I believe that either you help the new driver obtain some skills and knowledge so they can be a safe productive driver or get out of the way and let someone else do it.

 

Amen driver. I hate those jackoffs who use a trainee as a cheap co-driver. If a trainee doesn't know enough to be solo the trainer has no business doing bunk time. Get his butt up there in the right seat and teach.

Newbies, if your "trainer" tells you to hit the bunk and close the curtain when you hit a dot scale, get out of that truck pdq. He's using you.
