Might want to do some shoping around. I just spent $600.00 on a brand new HP with 20 inch monitor. Computer does great for what I need. Runs all my programs and I can even read my e-mail, LOL. Think I will wait till MS works out some bugs on IE9 before I download it.
nothing new that i do so why get a new computer, before it dies? as for browsers there is oprea chrome and firefox I like chrome the best
XP is a disaster. It was once a great operating system, but because of it's lack of User Account Control that Vista and 7 have, it's a malware magnet unless run with a limited user account, which is a big pain in the butt and most users are unwilling to do. I dual boot XP and Linux. I use XP to update my Garmin GPS, firmware updates for some of the hardware I own, and a few commercially made video games that I own. I don't use it for browsing at all.
7 is real nice. I will take XP Pro over Vista any day. Vista is terrible. As for browsers I use firefox and don't have any issues, works just fine. Now if the kids get on it, that's a different story.
My biggest problem with 7 is the price. My laptop came with Vista on it. It was AWFUL. Two out of three boots were unsuccessful, leaving me no option but to hold down the power button for 3-4 seconds to power it off and try again. This is not very good on a hard drive, and it took about 6 months before it destroyed mine. When I replaced the hard drive, I put Linux and XP on it. I couldn't be happier. I had an old XP disk laying around, and the Linux was FREE. It also comes with thousands of software programs to choose from, and all of them are free as well. I have a sister with over 3 grand invested in software alone on her system, and my laptop can do everything her computer can and more, and I have zero dollars invested in software. I still do get the gaming bug every now and then...so I dual boot XP. That and I still have a few gadgets that take firmware updates, like my GPS unit, so I have to have Windows for. That's a rarity for me these days, I have to remind myself once a month to boot up XP and get it updated. That leads me to my other gripe with Windows, is the humongous footprint. XP isn't all that bad, a couple of gigs, but Vista weighed in at 18 gigs when I had it, and I've read 7 is 11-12. That's a ridiculous amount of bloated code, if you ask me.
I used to use IE for browsing for years. That's until I was turned on to Firefox. No more crashes, slow loading or any of the headaches I had with IE.
For those running Chrome, try Iron Its a stripped down version of Chrome and its really smooth. Ive been using it for about 6 months without a single glitch http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php
