I am an IL resident and I just spoke with a recruiter from Maverick. He told me that me living in IL is an issue and he cannot send me to a training school. He says that if you receive your CDL in Arkansas (where Maverick training is) and go back to the dmv in IL, they will not accept it. I hope I got that right as it was pretty confusing. Anyone know what he's talking about and what to do about it?

Illinois has the worst, most incompetent DMV of all the states.
Maybe TMC (flatbed) will take you. You'll graduate with an Iowa CDL.
FFE (Frozen Food Express) a refrigerated outfit, has cdl school in Chicago and you'll graduate with an Illinois cdl.
Roehl Transport has flatbed, dry van, refrigerated cdl school. Call and ask if they have any problem with Illinois DMV.
The major problem in Illinois is the DMV just loves to fail anyone that got their cdl in another state. Do you have relatives in another state that will let you use their address? If so, do that, then reapply with Maverick if you're set on that company.

I did apply to TMC also, but there was no mention of the IL DMV issue. The Maverick recruiter told me to be careful of signing a contract for training, and they know that I can't get my license once I return to IL, but I am in a contract so I am obligated to pay them back either way. I really don't know what to think.

Play it safe then and go with FFE (Frozen Food Express). This way you'll get a Illinois cdl.

Looks like ffe is your best option.
Get a year or so of experience and move on.

Going to take time as most schools require utility bills etc to verify address.
Easier and quicker to just get rolling..imho

That's a good idea. I think the obligation contract is for 12 months. Do that, then switch to flatbed if you want. With 12 months driving experience, dozens of companies will hire you. www.daseke.com is a good source of info for flatbed companies, for future reference.

Maybe a relative can give him a notorized lease that has "utilities included." Sometimes they may want 3 pieces of mail with your name and the new address, so have your mail forwarded there.

Having an address I don't actually live at on my license isn't an option because I'm constantly needing to verify my address in my other job. Ill check out FFE, thanks for the suggestion. I'm not really understanding the process here though, I did apply to a few schools. If one of them accepts me (and they are all out of state training), should I accept or not? I don't know what happens after training.
