The place I'm delivering to has a combination of trailers at the dock and trucks attached to trailers as well as some empties and I'm about to run out of time on my 14-hour clock. so I'm thinking since I've been here over 7 hours and they haven't even started unloading can I just disconnect my bobtail and then off duty drive back to my terminal and leave the trailer here and let them deal with it ?since I'm not going to stay here on duty and have a log violation has anybody ever done this? Yeah somebody's probably going to say why don't you just ask your DM he's not the one that's going to get the ticket for the log violation right?

U wont go into violation on ur 14 until u want to move the truck.. U can be in duty for litterally eternity and never be in violation until u want to drive...Me personally i would never log on duty until they start unloading me , but some guys says thats not correct... I was always under the assumption that if im not doing any work and or getting unloaded/loaded then why do i have to log it like im working? Just because im sitting on the customers property? ..i dont know the correct answer to this question its really up to u... I have bobtailed off a customers property to go get food and come back and recorded it as off duty driving, but i have alot of bad habits that i dont wanna pass on

Put a pin lock on the trailer and F off for 10 that might get the point across

DO NOT whatever you do leave your load.

It could be construed as abandonment. Hop into the sleeper with your trailer.

Listen to D.Tippet, he knows more than I do.

I would edit logs to sleeper. Go to bed and if they wake you up in one more hour you will have an eight hour sleeper break. Log 15 unload and drive to terminal go back to bed. Welcoming to trucking it sucks. Get in and out times put on your BOL. If they refuse say ok and as soon as you get back into your truck write down in and out times. Sign next to it Daffy Duck. Ask for detention first thing in the morning. If you leave no detention. Your time is worth something. Call your spouse if you don’t believe me.

What's the name of this place? Taking that long to unload you is beyond unacceptable provided you arrived at your scheduled appointment time.

Why are you sitting waiting to unload with your logbook showing on duty in the first place, unless you are actively involved in unloading the trailer you're not on duty. If you could change that 7 hours over to sleeper berth, another hour and you've got whatever hours you had left when you pulled in there back, unless I'm wrong about how an 8/2 split works.

    communicate with your company.

doing things on your own can get you into worse crap.

honestly, why is it that so many post these things, in hopes of us validating thier thoughts?

    we are NOT your bosses.

    COMMUNICATE WITH YOURS...!!!!!!

Unless the rules changed. Technically speaking he's being legal.

And that discussion has been beat to death already on this forum.

But yeah. Change your on duty time to off duty and watch what happens.
